During that test, I disconnected the negative terminal from the battery.

I have been haunted with this fault lately, I have changed the pressure switch, the relief spring, and piston too but the intermittent warning still show up.

I tested the continuity from the rear multi-plug to the DME D24 pin.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

"Oil Pressure too low"
08 CS with 5K miles.
My car has been in storage all winter and I went to have a look at it today. The battery in my car was dead so I put another one in. I started the car and let it idle. After about 15 minutes, I started getting warnings for "Oil Pressure too low". I turned it off and restarted it and after a bit and I got the warnings again. This message comes on the main indicator and there is no associated CEL. This was at idle and I didn't drive the car around in fear that there might potential damage with low oil pressure. Any ideas why this happened or what could be the cause? Oil level according to the gauge is 100% full. Should I tow the car to a mechanic or is it safe to drive?

Re: "Oil Pressure too low"
Thanks for the advice guys, but I was wondering if anyone actually knew what the issue was. Warranty has expired based on time. Going to be taking it to a Porsche specialty shop if I can't figure out the problem here. Thanks!

The change of
battery
could make some sensors go nuts. You may have to drive the car for a few minutes to reset. Call a dealer to confirm.
Porsche
has a 4 yr warranty, so yours should be covered.
I cannot confirm this at the moment... but I seem to remember reading in the
Cayman
owner's manual that it is
not
recommended to let the car idle. Perhaps the 15 minutes of idling that you describe is the culprit.
O.K., I just dug-out my trusty
Cayman
Owner's Manual that I haven't looked at since I bought my car in 2007. However, I did recall reading a rather obscure warning on p.86 in the center column under the heading "Starting the engine"... The last two bullet-
points
state:
1) When starting the engine, be ready to drive immediately. Drive vehicle at moderate speeds and avoid engine speeds above 4200 rpm during the first 5 minutes.
2)
Do not let the engine idle to warm up.
Not sure if this is the cause of your problem, but it's the best I could come up with... Good luck!

Re: "Oil Pressure too low"
From what I read, it happens once in a while at idle. I'm going to see if it goes away with a little light driving. If it goes away with driving and comes back at idle, it could be the oil pressure switch. Any other thoughts?

Kaka? AKA ****, gunk, grunge, yucky-stuff, crud, and GKW (God Knows What)? BTW, the word is Spanish and is spelled "caca". All kidding aside, I agree on the oil pressure sensor/connection malfunction diagnosis.

Re: "Oil Pressure too low"
It happened at idle. I didn't blip the throttle at all. Car is still in storage so I'm not going to be driving it for a bit. I'll take it out in a couple of weeks to see if it goes away with some light driving. Since there is no CEL, I'm betting it's the oil sending unit/switch which thankfully is only $8 ( I still can't believe its that cheap). Anyone know where it is located or how to replace the thing?

Re: "Oil Pressure too low"
Hey guys, problem solved. Turns out there actually was "kaka" on the oil pressure sending unit. I guess having it sit over the winter allowed the oil to cake on the sensor. I drove it around a bit today and the message disappeared when the car got up to operating temperature and the oil was allowed to circulate.
Crisis averted.

Re: "Oil Pressure too low"
Thanks for all the input guys. It was very helpful and very appreciated!
I didn't change the oil before I stored because I figured I'd put fresh oil in before I start driving this year as opposed to changing it before I store and then driving will old oil when it comes out of storage. Any thoughts on that?

The old oil will have acids and contaminants. And stuff it picked up embedded in it that will eventually settle as sludge.
It is much better to store the engine after a fresh oil change. The fresh oil won't go "stale" just sitting in the oil-pan. In the spring it will be good as new.
Re: "Oil Pressure too low"
Makes sense to change it before. I was just worried about it collecting condensation over the winter. I will definitely change it before storage this time!

Re: "Oil Pressure too low"
Sorry to revive, but I have the same symptom. Have not revved up the car yet, but I did turn on my 3-qt Accusump during idle and the warning remained. Engine sounds just fine at idle. Might be sensor bad or dirty connection as noted above. Of course I have a track event tomorrow and this has to be resolved now
Of course the closest dealer that might have the pressure sensor (986-606-203-03) in stock ($16) is over an hour away.
Re: "Oil Pressure too low"
More bad news. The sensor changed nothing. Still getting low oil pressure warning. Darn it. No tracking this Cayman tomorrow.
Re: "Oil Pressure too low"
Here is the latest update folks. I installed a Spek oil pressure gauge. With some trepidation I started up the car. Got 80 psi on the gauge and a low pressure warning on the dash!
Grounding the wire from the low pressure sensor changed nothing, same error.
So I tested the low pressure switch wiring. I traced the green with white sensor wire to this multi-connection plug behind the engine compartment. The wire IS conducting to this point. Time to find out where it goes next! The wiring diagram says D24 on the DME.
I tested the continuity from the rear multi-plug to the DME D24 pin. All good! During that test, I disconnected the negative terminal from the battery. Since the wire checks out, and the sensor is new, I reconnected everything again and started the car.
Same error appeared on the dash. Durametric shows no DME faults.
Officially stumped. Ideas other than replacing DME?
Re: "Oil Pressure too low"
Tested the idiot light sender on the engine this morning:
Here is resistance with engine off:
Once engine is running, resistance is infinite (open switch):
The horrible erroneous error:
So in theory, when the sensor wire is disconnected, the DME should treat this as "good" oil pressure. If grounded, then the engine has no oil pressure. So if the wire from the sensor to the DME was grounded anywhere, we would see this symptom of no oil pressure. But it tests out as having good integrity.
Based on my previous owners dealer service records this was caused by a oil pressure relief spring cracking in case anyone ha this happen to them part no. 996-107-127-53
I have been haunted with this fault lately, I have changed the pressure switch, the relief spring, and piston too but the intermittent warning still show up. I noticed that it is quite frequent when I turn my steering wheel to the right
