As you can tell in the attached pic as some point in its life this Targas glass top was replaced with a solid roof from a Carrera.

Hi all, Finally pulled the trigger and bought the cheapest 911 996 6 speed in the state of Texas (I think) Happy to do a full breakdown later but a couple of questions for those way more experienced than I.
As you can tell in the attached pic as some point in its life this Targas glass top was replaced with a solid roof from a Carrera. Apparently it was a sunroof roof that they plugged the hole (badly) so now I am having it replaced. I have already sourced a new solid roof thru Sunset Porsche parts. Couple of questions.
1. Does anybody have experience with this conversion. Given the cost of the motors and glass on a 996 Targa I cant be the only person with this conversion done.
2. Hard for me to tell but the strips in between the roof panel and the door frames are apparently different and I cannot tell if they are Targa or Carrera.
3. I have spoken to several body shops in the Austin TX area (NE austin) and have one in mind but def open to recommendations from you all. Having said that I am not looking to get the entire car Repainted at this time as there are other parts and etc that need to be gone thru (Bumpers front and rear) Hood dent etc.

The 996 targa is closer to a cab than a coupe. The entire roof assembly is a separate item, just like the convertible top. I don't know with certainty but I would be amazed if a coupe roof panel was compatible. Perhaps it could be cut to fit, but there would be major modification involved.
Only reason to have done this is because the car was not taken care of ,,, or got damaged badly at some point, 996 Targas that I've seen are selling for about 2x what a coup does and almost 3x over a cab. I would find a race shop that does porche prep and just have them re-roof the car as a coupe.. TO me its a track rat unles you paid for full restore.

Does the car run good,? Do the key fobs/door locks/interior lights/alarm all work..? Any interior water damage..?
