Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Changed my rear brake discs ( Brembo ) and brake pads ( Porsche ) at my recent annual service on my 987.2 ... And there was a screeching sound like metal on metal after driving the car for 20-30 mins! Audio file attached in - Cayman brakes Oct 2020 drive.google.com Sent it back to my local independent workshop and my local expert diagnosed the problem as the hand-brake shoes rubbing against the new discs when they warmed up and expanded! After some sanding and cleaning up of the hand-brake shoes... Voila, perfection and quiet once again!

POST 2Original post

Alas squeaks and screeching back today under deceleration, as in when I lift off the throttle at low speed - Not just when I am braking. Coming from rear again … wonder if it is the Handbrake shoes? Sigh! Back to the shop tomorrow :-(

POST 3Original post

Sorry to hear that. I know how irritating it is when our car makes unpleasant noise and affects our driving mood.

POST 4Original post

Agreed but at least the sound is narrowed down to the left rear side, and it looks like it is associated with the old (and rather worn) hand-brake shoe, which under certain circumstances comes into contact with the new Brembo rear disc. I have a commitment from my local workshop that he will solve it, and so far I can't fault the guy - Came by to collect my car from work and home, and took it away to do fixes. Guess I am a patient person

POST 5Original post

987.2 was returned by my local mechanic straight to my parking spot at home 9:30pm last night... Took it for a 30 min spin this morning, the noise had gone! Even tried to induce it with decelerating up a slight slope after brakes warm up... No screech. Let's hope it stays good in the weeks ahead 👌

POST 6Original post

glad to hear that - did they say what caused it or how they fixed it?

POST 7Original post

Seems they needed to sand the LHS hand brake shoe, and if sound persists - Gotta change the part. Some abrasion between the shoe and the new Brembo discs it seems! For now, the mechanic worked on the RHS shoe last week and now the LHS shoe this week.. and all is quiet on the Western front again! Perhaps at Oct 2021 ( next year!) annual service - I can get some new hand-brake shoes, wonder if Textar will do, or Brembo or Porsche original? It's the hand brake after all … so I figure it is a long wearing and not the most critical bit? Can change my rusty alloy rim lugs at the same time!

POST 8Original post

Car returned (My mechanic drove the car back to my home and parked it for me too .. How is that for service!), screech free after LHS hand-brake shoe ground down slightly and cleaned up, yay! Looking all fierce again, and ready for a weekend morning drive!
