On the plus side, i've used loads of penetrating fluid on the bolts and cleaned them all up, so the arch liner will come away nice and easily for them!
Leading evidence: 'Use loads of penetrating fluid' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace pump' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Well that is spooky, my car also went for a major service, it was raining on the way in so I used my windscreen wash.

Pulled and wiggled as much as i dared with the car in the air but couldn't get it to move to locate and replace the pump.

For reasons i don't quite understand the OPC had to supply 2x new fobs (re-using the blades) because the working fob failed when they had the car in their care.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A couple of months ago i had 2 cars in a week with a brand new although 2 year old fobs that had never been used and now didn't work ..
My 996T was in at the local OPC for alignment and a new keyfob.
For reasons i don't quite understand the OPC had to supply 2x new fobs (re-using the blades) because the working fob failed when they had the car in their care. I wasn't charged for that fob, so I can't really complain
However, the windscreen washer (which was working fine before it went in) as now stopped. No noise from the pump at all - washer reservoir topped up.
Headlight washers (which i think are on the same relay/fuse?) and obviously the same steering column stalk work fine.
At first i thought that perhaps the OPC had mistakenly un-coded the washer (including the headlight washer) when they were sorting the keys out. But given that the headlight washer (which i think can be disabled in PIWIS?) is working, i suspect this isn't the case?
Is there any likely hood of the washer for the screen being a simple PIWIS check-and-enable . . . or is this most likely just coincidence and its failed?
(Car is a 2003MY sp thats an 18 year old pump) lol!
You weren't charged for the second new fob ..
Mistakes happen .. we are all human .. it was deleted off the list and as such needed to be replaced as there is no way to recode it .
OPC just lost over £160 on that .
Washer pump .. i'm not aware of any way it can be uncoded on the 996 .. 997 yup .
It sounds like coincidence and the pump has failed ..
usual tests to confirm would be is there voltage at the pump when operated .. you go from there .
Cheers DeMort. :thumb:
I've assumed a dead unit and ordered a new one from eBay (OEM part number minus the Porsche tax)
Looks like a front-left wheel off and arch liner off job to reach the washer bottle. Then one screw to remove it to access the pump which sits on the side of the washer bottle.
Can i just add ..
You have 2 key fobs .. please rotate them every 3 months ..
Make a note on your phone or diary .
If you chuck one in a draw for the next 2 years then the chances of it working are on the low side .. Which is usually when you actually need it .
A couple of months ago i had 2 cars in a week with a brand new although 2 year old fobs that had never been used and now didn't work ..
I tried the usual tricks but to no avail .. brand new fobs went in the bin and rather expensive new ones coded on .
I don't know why this happens but it does ..
Hence these days its my new pet hate and i bang on about it whenever i get the chance .
New washer pump is 30 mins to fit (at least on a 997)
Detach filler spout, nearside front wheel off, rear arch liner out and 13mm socket to undo the reservoir.
Its a push fit part. Just need to ensure you don't kink the pipes refitting.
Indys can code these on as well .. you'll need a V5 as proof of ownership but that's the case either way .
Most of the cost through is in the parts .. labour rate is flat at 0.5 hrs for a fob replacement .
FYI .. if memory seats then the fobs MUST be coded in the same position .. ie transponder in Pos 3 then remote MUST be in Pos 3 ...
Failure to do so and the memory seats will stop working with the key .
Well that is spooky, my car also went for a major service, it was raining on the way in so I used my windscreen wash. They told me the pump was seized on their inspection list when I went to collect. I was surprised but true it had stopped working when I collected and on my removal/inspection the pump was dead. The housing had cracked and let moisture in to the motor, I guess using it on the way was what had caused it to short.
As above it's really not a difficult DIY and OEM parts are shockingly reasonable. I found a good video online.
Make sure you order the 'location bung' as well as the pump. They've upgraded the design and the new part comes with a filter. Seems a better design to me.
The whole thing cost me about 1hr and £50
Had the car up on an axel stand at the front-left jack point with a low-entry jack on the left rear jack point (plus some wheel chocks)
Took me about an hour to get the damned arch liner off. Bolts seized etc.
I then discovered that the washer bottle on the 996T is massive - right side of the arch, plus runs over the top of the arch to the front (is that the norm on all 996 variants?)
Despite undoing the additional bolts the hold the front of the washer bottle in place, i couldn't remove the damn thing lol. Pulled and wiggled as much as i dared with the car in the air but couldn't get it to move to locate and replace the pump.
Booked in to a local Indy to get it sorted
On the plus side, i've used loads of penetrating fluid on the bolts and cleaned them all up, so the arch liner will come away nice and easily for them! They are also happy to fit the pump i have already purchased.
What's the location bung? The pump i ordered (99662817200 but not the OEM Porsche one) is just the pump itself.
