Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

This "authorises" for want of a better word the alarm to allow the battery to be disconnected without the on-board battery backed up siren to go off.
Leading evidence: 'Disconnect without the' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect ) without' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If the battery goees flat (or is disconnected) without setting the alarm, the deadlock won't activate.

Firstly, if you're lucky enough to catch it before it's flat, unlock normally, put the key in the ignition in the ON position before disconnecting the battery.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ok, so for those of you who like me need to take the battery out of the car to charge for extended over winter breaks, here's a tip for you to save your eardrums.
Firstly, if you're lucky enough to catch it before it's flat, unlock normally, put the key in the ignition in the ON position before disconnecting the battery. This "authorises" for want of a better word the alarm to allow the battery to be disconnected without the on-board battery backed up siren to go off.
Secondly, reattaching. Now it doesn't matter what state the alarm was in when the power went off. In my case the battery was dead flat and the alarm had gone off in protest at some point. Put the key into the ignition in the ON position before attaching the battery. This again means when the alarm fires up upon power being applied, it has the key to scan and authorise and will be happy!
Ok, so like me, you've got a Mk 1 with manual boot/bonnet releases and the battery is dead flat. You'll then find that you can't release the boot bonnet as the deadlock is set. You could try and find the boot/bonnet emergency cable releases in the bumper wheel arches but good luck on a GT3. You could try and find power to apply to the car, again, not easy for me. So the simple fix was to undo the two front allen key bolts on the actual lever mechanism inside the car. Don't undo them all the way, just enough so you can lift up the lever mechanism and get to the metal tags for the deadlock solenoid. Sounds harder than in actually is. Simply move tag backwards a little and you can then lift the catch. Reassemble in reverse.
A couple of tips to make someone's life a little easier.
Helpful advice there, well done!
Just a thought but can you open the engine lid without the battery on or is that deadlocked in the same way?
Then you could connect the battery to the jumping terminals at the back to allow you to 'pop the hood' and refit the battery.
Of course, if it's deadlocked in the same way then I'm talking nonsense!
Both front and rear lids are deadlocked when the battery goes flat
You could pull the rear emergency release (it is easier to get to if you have a thin tool to fish out from under left light assembly)
I believe you can release the deadlock without taking off the panel:

Apparently the deadlock will only be activated when the alarm is set. If the battery goees flat (or is disconnected) without setting the alarm, the deadlock won't activate.
Just for info, the emergency cable release is behind the passenger side on RHD cars with mechanical releases, and the drivers side if you have electric releases. The rear lid cable is behind the passenger side rear light unit.
