Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I am looking at a 99 911 as a toy car, eventually a street/track toy. Car is in good condition overall, but, odometer shows 170k miles. Motor was rebuilt (with documentation), and has 27k on it. He is looking for $12k. Price seems ok for a toy, but what else should i be concerned with? Anything a total porsche newb should be looking for?

POST 2Original post

Just 2c worth....the buy in cost is one thing but the stay in cost can be significant on these cars. I'd recommend a substantial emergency fund. Suggest some research on the 996 as there are known issues- the most well known is the IMSB. Other items are RMS leaks, coolant tank leaks, AOS failures, water pumps. At this age and mileage also suspension components may need work- struts, control arms, wheel bearings. Also CV boots, motor/trans mounts may need attention. The old adage- buy the newest best condition car you can afford applies. A PPI by a knowledgable shop is a must. Note that Excellence magazine recommends against the 99 model year as later cars have some improvements. The good news is a lot of 996s were built and there are many to choose from. Best of luck

POST 3Original post

I have read about the ims, and rms issues, and will double chexk motor rebuild paperwork. Also need to see if any other work like, water pump, motor mounts, were upgraded while the motor was out
