Tough choices, love the 911 with PSE but been driving them for 7 years now, first a 997 and then the 991, just thought the change might be nice.

POST 1Original post

I am leaning towards selling my 911 CS (991) and moving on to a Jaguar. Nothing wrong with the 911, it's a beauty and has only 23K miles but I've been in Porsche for 7 years, way over my limit and I need a change. I looked at the 2017 Carrera and was a bit underwhelmed. I'm not opposed to the turbos but the interior was exactly the same other than the bigger screen and updated electronics. Again, nice but not the change I'm looking for. I test drove the F type yesterday, both the R and the S. The R is an absolute monster, very fast and very very Loud. It's a fun car but a little too much for me. I then drove the 380hp AWD and was pleasantly surprised. It is nice. Jaguars are such poor sellers here that they are highly discounted. The 2016's are much cheaper than the 911 come with 5 years of maintainance and a 100k warranty, making ownership a relative bargain. At any rate my impressions: The 911 is a lot more precise and responsive to steering input, it feels faster and would be an easy choice if I was tracking my car, but I'm not. I'm looking for a DD that is fun but comfortable. The F type is fun, the 2 wheel drive can be tail happy if you push but the AWD is solid. The exhaust sound is very nice, in my opinion much nicer than my PSE. The R type is so loud that it seemed obnoxious, the backfires sound like gunfire but the power is intoxicating. The cockpit on the Jaguar is nice, maybe a little gimmicky and the infotainment system is not up to modern standards, no apple play yet. However, the vision package options are nice with features that one would expect in a car in this price range. Not many options necessary on the F type compared to Porsche pricing. As to looks, I can drive my 911 here and never get a second glance, 911's are pretty common, however, not so with the Jaguar, people were looking at the car every time I stopped, they look more exotic then they are and are still relatively rare. So, if the price is right, the 911 will go on the market in July. At any rate, that's the way I'm leaning and look forward to your comments. Feel free to PM me if you need more info.

POST 2Original post

Jag is a looker, clean lines and nice curves. GLWP! Are you going for auto or manual F type?

POST 3Original post

Auto for me, tore up my shoulder and find MT uncomfortable for me. Plus, traffic here is awful. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

POST 4Original post

There's a few threads talking about comparisons. Bottom line is people usually know if they like the first drive. Doesn't sound like you're 100% sold. Nice to live somewhere with a bunch of rich people driving 911s and ignoring each other haha. How much discount are you able to get on an F Type?

POST 5Original post

So many high end cars in the area. Jaguar is willing to CPO a new car giving you a longer warranty and discount 15 to 20 percent. You can pick up an S for around 80. I love the 911 but need a change. The F is just a bit less precise but fine for my needs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

POST 6Original post

I loved the Jag. Like you said, living here in bean-town, Porsche's are a dime-a-dozen, so you really gotta have a Jag or Ferrari to stand out, even Maseratis are becoming "common". There was an interesting article from top-gear comparing the Jag, Boxster S and 911: Jag F-Type vs Porsche 911 vs Boxster | Top Gear net-net -- the Jag is great, but the Boxster is, perhaps, greater due to it's handling, the 911 is OK too. "Forget the image. If all you want to do is barrel around the many corners of Scotland’s beautifully deserted Highlands, the £45,000 Boxster S - remains untouchable. No shame on Jaguar for failing to land the killer punch here, though it gets mighty close: at least until the Cayman lands in the UK (not long, folks!), the Boxster is the best sub-£60k sports car you can buy. In fact, scrap that. This might just be the best sports car you can buy, full stop. “Jaguar benchmarked the 911 for performance,” noted the sage-like Paul Horrell at the end of our day testing the F-Type against the two Porsches. “And I’d say it’s succeeded in that. Problem is, it benchmarked the wrong Porsche…” So, that question again. The F-Type: great-value alternative to the 911, or a seriously pricey Boxster rival? Erm, it’s both. And if you think that’s a headache for anyone considering an F-Type, imagine what it’s like for the poor Porsche salesmen…" I think the take-away is you can't go wrong with any of them and it's up to personal choice. I was severely tempted by the Jag, but the Jag was new at the time and there were few discounts to be had and then I found a great CPO Boxster S with more-than-everything-I-wanted at a good price. But if there were better discounts on the Jag, I might have gone the other way. You're clearly "done" with Porsche for a while -- I'd go4it -- grab your tweedy coat, trade your kraut and sausage for some bangers and mash! We are truly lucky to live in an age where we have these great options!

POST 7Original post

Great cars all - the Jag now offers AWD and that locks down the handling a bit more too. In all honesty, if prices were the same, I would probably stay with a P car but with lower pricing and free maintainence it is difficult not to take a look at the Jag. Still negotiating and have my car to sell but we shall see.

POST 8Original post

The Jag is a pretty car, around my area,it's very rare, I've only seen 2 on the road, an orange and a grey one. They attract a lot more attention b/c they are rare. It's a beautiful car, I almost brought one but my wife prefer the Boxster more. Didn't want to argue with the wife, she is almost always right.

POST 9Original post

Are you sure about 100k warranty? I'm looking at XE for my family car, and I'm pretty sure the warranty on new 2017 is 5 years. How deeply are Jags discounted? XE is new so no discounts now, but I'm willing to wait, just need to estimate what discount to expect Thanks!

POST 10Original post

I was looking at CPO warranty, dealer was willing to CPO a new car. I'm not sure what the discounts are but look online at used inventory. You will get an idea and see brand new cars listed with aggressive discounts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

POST 11Original post

I had an F-Type S last year. Liked everything about it but no downshift noises really to speak of. I have an exhaust on my 991 turbo s and I think it sounds great because of the electronics in the 991's. F-Type was a great car but also really like the handling feel of my Porsche better. Depends on what you like but both great cars. Cars: 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cab

POST 12Original post

Tough choices, love the 911 with PSE but been driving them for 7 years now, first a 997 and then the 991, just thought the change might be nice. I think the Porsche handles slightly better and is slightly faster but not much of a factor for me. Free service for 5 years with the F is sweet. I am, however, at the Porsche Parade this week and am in awe of the cars here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

POST 13Original post

Nice to have a solid alternative. How is the reliability of the F type? Forgetting warranty, frequent visits to the dealer are a pain. And, what underwhelmed with the new Carrera? Too familiar? I love the light on its feet feel of my Boxster S and I assume the 911s feel the same. The jag is big heavy car. No?

POST 14Original post

How much does the Jaguar weigh? I looked at a Maserati but the extra thousand pounds of weight took a lot of the fun out of what I call driving. The question for me has become ... Is the extra weight (luxury) worth what I lose in sports car feel when I look at brands other than Porsche?

POST 15Original post

It is heavier but only you can judge how much difference the weight makes in real life. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

POST 16Original post

I'm at the gym all the time, so it helps me think in terms of weight and what it does to a car in the corners. I'd toss 400 pounds in the 991 and take a drive on your favorite twisty road, see if the car still changes directions like you want it to. I'm actually trying to figure out how much weight makes a difference to a sports car. The first time I drove a Jaguar F Type I thought it was a big car and heavy for a sports car. Brings up the question - when does a car jump from the sports car category to the Luxury car category because of its weight? Alpha 4C looks like a lot of fun being 400 pounds lighter than my Cayman (and 800 pounds lighter than the F Type). I'm thinking of setting up a test drive as they've just opened a Alpha dealer in my home town. I also tried Maserati, the car felt heavy and didn't give me the sports car feeling I was expecting from the Ferrari derived engine.

POST 17Original post

With the Brexit vote and the fall of the British pound, will you be able to get substantial discounts on Jags???

POST 18Original post

With all the immigrants getting kicked out of Britain, will there be anyone else left to build your Jag???

POST 19Original post

Would be nice, but I guess they'll be sold at the same price - its just that brits get less profit after the conversion. Or India actually...TATA owns the brand. 1 dollar is like 100 rupees.

POST 20Original post

I had an F Type R next to me , a drop top man it is gorgeous and the sound is delicious. I've always been fond of Jags , enjoy the new ride .

POST 21Original post

My neighbor owns an F type in red and black like my car. Don't know which motor but boy is that thing loud with lots of crackles and pops. A bit much I think and he is always flying down a small residential street. My other neighbor , who owns an older 911 told me neighbors were complaining about him. The car is lovely but not as nice looking as my GR Boxster but I am biased.

POST 22Original post

Sounds like the R type, REALLY loud. The style is very subjective. I think it is nicer looking than ant P car but that's me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

POST 23Original post

I didn't read the whole thread, so hopefully I am not repeating anything. My boss owns a Jaguar F Type R. It's a black coup. He doesn't drive it to work much but the other day, I got a close up of it. I want a ride in it. First of all I have to say that the car looks fantastic. Really fantastic! Better than the 911 by a long shot. Seriously, after my introduction, I went home and got on their configurator and started questioning whether I should get my 911 next year. It comes with a lot of stuff and you can spec full leather with deviated stitching etc. The car sounds awesome. Better than the new 911s. It's a beast and faster than the 991.2 C2S. My only reservation was the quality aspect of Jaguar. I've heard only bad things. I trust Porsche. Just my two cents from an unbiased observer.....

POST 24Original post

I hear you. The deep discounts and the 100k warranty is nothing to scoff at. And frankly, the quality of the standard interior in the Porsches does nothing for me. The jag is rated reasonably well for reliability. And the interior looks gorgeous and the sound is awesome. Well worth a look methinks. I thank the OP for bringing this up. My only concern is that it is aheavy car but if you are going to use it as a GT car to complement your Boxster, it is a good combination.

POST 25Original post

The people I have met and now attend different events with in the Porsche community more than make up for any attention a Jaguar may get. Usually at the Milwaukee Mile the Jags I have seen show up, run one session and leave. It's a different mind set.-Richard
