I have used Smoothrite by Hammerite on mine then went on the net to find the Porsche logo, expanded to correct size and got a signs company to do me a few high quality stickers.

Suggestion

What I prefer about the brush paint-on method is the thickness, higher protection against stone chips but if you really want a factory look then use aerosols (maybe better because Brembo's paintwork is crap IMO)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Evening Guys, I bought a 996tt a month back and it is mint condition with exception of the front red calipers. It looks like an owner a while back (not teh last one as he was very careful) used the acid wheel cleaner and as a result the red calipers have lost their lacquer. They look faded and pinky when dry, but when you wash them and are wet, they go back to the glorious deep red. FYI the rear calipers are mint. So...my question is, has anyone had experience of getting these calipers reburbished, from an asthetics point of view, mechnically they are sound. Basically I would guess they would need painted again, 'Porsche' written back on them in white and laquered. If anyone can recommend anyone, would be greatly appreciated.

you could try palindrome sports in surrey. speak to Rhodri there and he should be able to do something for you. www.palindromesports.com (.co.uk?)

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Lloyd, Does that paint make an imaculate OM finish? I have painted calipers on old cars before and I have never got that wonderful finish. Also did you laquer ontop of the stickers? Have the stickers held up to the high temperatures ok?

POST 5Original post

Didn't need to laquer the stickers, the person who did the graphics said they will be ok. I did my Boxster calipers 2 years ago, not a single issue. They look spot on to me, even did the brake lines in Black. I will do photos when I get a mo. What I prefer about the brush paint-on method is the thickness, higher protection against stone chips but if you really want a factory look then use aerosols (maybe better because Brembo's paintwork is crap IMO) Brembo calipers do not get that hot to melt stickers during road use, possibly a different story on track days. (I managed to get through a new pair of discs and pads at Donnington on a Nissan 350z, they were glowing Orange when I pulled into the pits.) but saying that, they are stickers from new.

POST 6Original post

A friend of mine with a C4S had grubby looking calipers. It turned out that track days generated enough heat to lose the laquer. He had a local bodyshop clean the dust off them and spray them in 2-pack laquer. They look like new now, so much better, but for how long? Just a thought......

POST 7Original post

Just make sure if you get them painted in situ they don't get paint on the pads retaining pin. As its a real pain to drift out when changing the pads if you do - ask me how I know :gunfire: - and that was an OPC approved paint shop!
