Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had it up on my website, but the company where I host it change the directory structure.
Leading evidence: 'Replace directory structure' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace directory structure' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I'm getting ready to replace the timing chain guides specifically the Vario cam guides on my m96-04 3.4 motor.

Yes I am replacing the Vario cam pads along with the Green Oring's on the Passenger Side I'm also replacing the entire cam adjuster and solenoid as I got a good deal on an NOS assembly because the wiring that passed through the valve cover was cut.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have all of the the timing tools and parts sealants and one replacement solenoid due to a broken wire.
Im curious what books manuals or documentation are available for this process. I understand the basics that each side is timed independently 360 apart
Thanks for any insights or information you have best regards Will
Do you mean replace the vario cam
actuator pads
..?
If so, as long as you're that deep in the engine, and already have the actuators in your hand, should get the actuator rebuild o-ring kit. As its a common problem, and almost every engine of this age period needs those o-rings replaced. Especially if you see green o-ring bits in the sump pan...

Good call...
I'd install all the o-rings in the kit, not just the green ones replacements
I assume you know that the passenger side and drivers side actuators are not interchangeable even though they look identical....
I purchased this off eBay for $300 NOS from Germany in original packaging and waited a month for customs to clear. Everything local seemed very expensive
You can see where the wire was damaged on the old one they are both the Gray style Solenoid so hopefully its the correct part
It's easy to do, you just need to study. If you have the factory manual, it shows how to do it. I had it up on my website, but the company where I host it change the directory structure.

I didn't not quickly find the procedure to do the timing, but it's easy. Make sure you get the exhaust cam to intermediate shaft tensioner o-ring and sealing washer if you don't have them.
I just updated my website so the factory service manual is available again. To set up the timing, it's the second engine file once you get the 996.1 zip file.

I pulled the valve cover off today and removed the cams after inspection I've decided to go ahead and replace the main timing chain guides as I could see a bit of wear on them what's another $200 in parts while I'm in this deep and since I have the front cover removed the bolts for the timing chain guides are super easy to access.
