While the S is capable of banging out quicker 0-60 and 0-100 times on paper, the difference from behind the wheel isn't all that noticeable except when running full throttle and banging off shifts at redline.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I test drove a 2017 911S again yesterday but did not have time to drive a 911 base. If any member has done that comparisson, is there a noticeable difference in the off the line quickness and highway passing ability between the two models? I know the Porsche literature 0-60 specs on both but is it very noticeable behind the wheel? Thanks

POST 2Original post

I haven't driven them, but they are both insanely fast on paper. I really don't think you'd have a problem passing people in either car (heck my base boxster is more than fast enough). I actually read people are saying the S model acceleration is getting to "ridiculous" realms and some prefer the slower base car. I think they have the identical engine too. The S model just has a turbo with more boost.

POST 3Original post

I drove a base car and and S back to back. While the S is capable of banging out quicker 0-60 and 0-100 times on paper, the difference from behind the wheel isn't all that noticeable except when running full throttle and banging off shifts at redline. FWIW, I found the base car a little less frenetic and more pleasurable to drive quickly. Throughout my adult life I've never opted for the base version of the model car I was buying. If I were to sell my Carrera GTS tomorrow to get into a 991.2, I'd go for the base.

POST 4Original post

That is interesting, I'm reading a lot of reviews saying the same thing, this is the first base 911 you'll ever need. I haven't driven a base only the S model and it's fast. A lot of people are saying since it's the same engine and different boost, there are going to be a lot of aftermarket tune that you can get to reached the same hp as the S. I'm really impressed with the new 991.2. I was thinking of a used R8 next year but maybe not.
