An ECU reset (do a search for info) will need to be peformed when you put the battery back on to regain base idle settings etc...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Went to my car this morning to dig it out of the ice. I switched on the engine and let the car warm up. After my screen was clear I went to use the wipers. They barely moved. Then I realised that they were actually switched on. So when I started up the car the wipers would have tried to wipe but they were frozen to the windscreen. Does anyone know if this is repairable? The motor is working as it tries to move the wipers but something must have come off or disconnected on the mechanism. Was very surprised that a little bit of ice can break the wipers.

POST 2Original post

Do not worry chap, it will be the linkage has popped apart. They are designed to take a certain amout of strain, anything over that the linkage will pop apart. All will come to light when you look. This will involve removing all 3 covers and take out the battery. An ECU reset (do a search for info) will need to be peformed when you put the battery back on to regain base idle settings etc... nothing difficult. My OS wiper arm has moved a notch on the splines as the same happened to me on Monday. Also a simple fix. You may find yours have budged, you will know if they have as they will slap the scuttle panel when moving, simply remove caps, undo 10mm nuts, lift carefully & move accordingly. Struggle with any of the above let me know, I will give you my number to talk you through it Lloyd

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was hoping it would be something like that. You legend, thanks. Will tackle this at the weekend.

POST 4Original post

Also, ensure you remove the cap off each arm to tighten up the 13mm nuts underneath. They are bound to have loosened slightly on the splines.
