Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

a fair few 911's do leak/seap oil but you have to weigh-up the oil cost/top-up hassle/clean-up vs a replacement RMS(its a big job) + most get a new clutch fitted also just as a precaution.

Suggestion
You may be able to put in quality 15w oil (but check/seek advice from your indy first) which although it won't stop the leak, it may lessen it a bit for you.
Leading evidence: 'Install also just as a precaution' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check /seek advice' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Guys,
I know that my rms is leaking as the guys at jaz, wembley showed me the last time it was there about a month ago.
They said the usual, to leave it until i need the clutch changed and to keep an eye on the oil level.
The on board indicator tells me the oil is full but the dipstick shows a couple of millimeters over the MIN mark.
Anyways heres a photo of what it leaked last night. Ive got my hand there to give some perpective to the size of the patches.
Is all of that from one night? if so I'd want to get that investigated. I owned a 996 for 10 months which was reported as having a leaky RMS but it left no more than a drip on my garage floor in that time, although you could see some 'misting' on the underside of the engine.
It would definitely be worth investigating the source of that leak/leaks to establish whether or not the RMS is the sole culprit etc. It's worth bearing in mind that the intermediate shaft bearing is directly above the RMS which can also leak.
don't get a single drop on my drive - just a big puff of oil smoke every now and then if i happen to boot it round a high speed bend! other than that hardly lose any oil at all
hmmm - not great if that's an overnight leak and you are fussy/looking to move the car on.

What you must do is keep the oil level high(keep at least 2 x litres of oil in the boot) or your problems may get a whole lot bigger on a 996T!
I know a pal who has a cat litter tray on the end of a metal coathanger wire which he easily slides/removes from under his 996 when it's parked in the garage. This lets him see the oil amount that's coming out and keeps the garage floor clean.
Hi wizard
Actually the car was parked in that spot for about three days so looking back its not so accurate :nooo:
I dont want to sell it on as ive just spent a small fortune getting it all up to scratch..sad thing is that the clutch was done before i bought it so i might have to cough up the labour for the seals alone
....just keep the oil level on the max whatever you decide to do
BTW - what oil(make, type and grade?) is in the oil tank...0w 40?

ive had this same amount of rms leakage for a couple of years now. iam awaiting for the clutch to get weak so i can send her in to Hartech for the full rms /clutch monty. the clutch seems to go on for ever though. the rms seems to leak around half a litre per anum. worried me at first but now i quite like my oil leak. reminds me of old british engineering .
