Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm about to jump in with both feet at buy a 2001 996 carrera 2. This is from a garage just down the road broad oak performance cars. When i asked about warranty, they told me i could buy a 100% comprehensive all inclusive including porsche parts and labour at any dealership. This would be through WMS and cost £500 for their 5* even though the book states this is only available for cars up to 5 years old.
Having searched some posts they have not got a good track record and the sales patter is not reflected in the warranty book.
I would really appreciate some advice.
Thanks
Be careful buying a 911 from anyone who isn't a Porsche specialist... You should not have to buy the warranty anyway - traders are bound by the Sale of Goods Act etc. and if you pay for your own warranty you are effectively giving him more profit as it is substantially reducing his risk: That is why reputable traders put a warranty on cars as part of the price - to protect themselves!
There are lots of these cars around at the moment, so you can afford to be choosy!
Welcome by the way!
I'm sure if the warranty was that good we would of all heard about it. It might just be me as I have not heard of this warranty so cannot confirm the validity of what he says.
I'd be careful, real careful...
Personally, I would not believe a single word of it.
If all owners of Porsches more than 5 years old could get a 5* warranty for £500 - they would be queing at their door by the thousand!
A good Indy warranty (eg Hartech, RSJ) may be had for about £800 following a full service and inspection. An OPC warranty would be at least twice that AFTER a full service and inspection with every fault being fully rectified first (at your cost).
Only my opinion - it's your decision :dont know:
thanks for the advice, I guess in the end I keep referring back to a quote from our legal company:
All that matters is what is built and written. All that is said is blown away like grains of sand in the desert.
If I don't get it documented in writing then it counts for Sh*t.
Has anyone heard of Broadoak Performance Cars, they certainly have reasonable premises and workshops. They claim to be Porsche service partners. I have so far put down a deposit on the 996. It was due the 48k service, which they have just carried out and put new rubber all round. So they seem to be ticking all the boxes for me, just the warranty issue. If i can get an addendum to the wms contract then for £500 im tempted to get it, otherwise ill give it a miss. In which case are they duty bound to give some limited warranty 30 days?

new warranty
Beware I bought my c4s from broadoak and I would not in any way recommend them or more to the point the owner, I had troubles to start with, he did do some workto help me but I never felt any confidence and I would never ever buy from him again, he took my boxster in with 80k on the clock and he advertised as 79k, Beware also his warranty was abysmal just the statutory three months, and his
insurance
based warranties were worthless
The Official Porsche Extended Warranty always covered upto 9 years old and 120K miles. However the New Warranty Regime is a lot stricter and costs initially approx £1300 and includes the cost of an initial 111 point check before they cover. You can also now buy 2 years at approx £2500 and you do not need another 111 point check for the 2nd year.
However if your car has any and I mean any non standard parts fitted, even if those parts are not covered by the wider terms of the new Warranty they will not cover . Eg a non standard radio will blow it out.
If you go down this somewhat expensive route you will have to pay to fix any faults on the 111 point check at an OPC before they will cover the car.
However if you are covered then the benefits are reliable if you have a major problem say with engine, transmission etc.
Yer pays your money and makes yer choice!
Regards Big Bob
bought our 996 from a trader 2 weeks ago and did not even consider/discuss a warranty until the salesman filled in the warranty booklet and handed it over. it's a 3 month warranty with a company called A1 Approved in Leeds, I'm going to try my luck with them tomorrow as the small print says that the starter motor and alternator are covered (though no further electrics!) and I possibly have a problem with one of these.
The cover it gives me is a single claim limit of £500 with an excess of £25, not enough if something really big happens but I did have a prepurchase inspection done by JZ Machtech and I believe that with used cars it is pretty much 'sold as seen' and 'buyer beware' so once you've bought it you are on your own!
Having said all that, it's a buyers market out there so if you have one ounce of doubt about any car you are thinking of buying, walk away as there are plenty of good cars out there.
Find a car you feel happy about, with a good service history and a wad of receipts from reputable Independant specialists or OPC, get a pre purchase inspection done and enjoy...
Hi Mike
can you elaborate on the issues you have with them? as I have the opportunity to pull out at the moment but am due to purchase the car tomorrow.
I have also done some searching and found Warrantywise which is endorsed by Quentin Wilson, it looks fantastic, im just looking for the catch. Has anyone had any experience of them?

+1, but you could find out that lots needs doing before your car passes it's 111 point check. But as Big Bob says, if you want a cast iron warrranty then OPC is the route to take.

warranty
Woodie do not buy from these people my car cost afortune to put right it neede rms two rads oils seals there garage missed these things and put magnatec in instaed of mobil 1 also the warranty was vrtually none existent he will have taken your 500 deposit no doubt just lose it and get a porsche from a porsche garage it will be cheaper and more reaasuring I ALLOWED MYSELF TO BE HOODWINKED. Also he advertised my boxster trade in as ahving only covered 79k but it had done over 80k when I sold it to them what does that tell Woodie. Run away from them.
Its been mentioned earlier on the thread but I'd tell them to stick ther warranty and head straight to Hartech (irrespective of location)
They are the real specialists with 996s and their warranty/maintenece scheme is exceptional
