Some place says its PCM1, but i read on another forum that if it using the 2002-01 disc then its PCM2...

With the PCM1, the best way to integrate your iPod is using the Dension ICELINK.

hello all, kind of a newbie - been a voyeur for a while :lurk:
but finally bought my 996 last September :dance: . (thanks to all for the great advice - only wish i'd done it a whole lot sooner)
I must have read hunderds of posts on PCM/ IPhone connectivity, but i's still none the wiser . I have a july 2002 996 with PCM . But i read conflicting information as to what is actually installed.
What i can say is that its has a cassette tape drive, PCM Software version: PCM/IDIS v5.43, Navigation Software: PONA642D, Database: uk/28603367, Map CD 2002-01. oh and a 6 cd changer in the boot and a SIM/Phone module.
Some place says its PCM1, but i read on another forum that if it using the 2002-01 disc then its PCM2... also that some later 2002's had MOST installed.

How can i tell ? i'd really like to know what the options are to (a) connect iPhone 3G for Music and Phone... or do i bite the bullet and replace the lot with a Pioneer Avic or Similar...

You definately have PCM1. The cassette slot is the giveaway. Whether it is MOST or not I am not too sure. However what I will say is PCM is shite IMO and I would replace it with a double din Pioneer/Sony/Kenwood unit.

I dont think PCM1 uses MOST technology...
Again not sure of your options with Pre-MOST technology.
An issue fix would be to get one of those tape-jack-adapters....
The sound quality may not be crystal, but no doubt the cheapest/easiest fix....

With the PCM1, the best way to integrate your iPod is using the Dension ICELINK. It's a very simple cable that allows you to navigate the first 5 playlists on the iPod via the CDChanger functionality. "CD6" allows you to navigate directly on the iPod. It's simple, easy to install, and it also charges your iPod whilst in use. Note that using the Icelink will disable your CD Changer.
If you had PCM2 (ie, with the CD/DVD) you would want to look at the mObridge iPod adaptor.
