Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Replace cap' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace cap' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

May I take this opportunity to wish all on the 996 forum the very best wishes for 2010.
Once again the forum has proved an invaluable source of information and help to me and numerous others, none more so than our very own Richard Hamilton who is worth the subscription fee alone. Take a bow sir.
Enjoy the celebrations this evening
regards
Ash
Just like to second that!
Its really great to know that there is somewhere to go to ask questions which arm you with some knowledge before you approach the OPC.
Best Wishes to all for the new year.
Cheers
Julie
I'll add my thanks here too. Thanks to Richard particularly who, earlier this year, diagnosed a faulty 'expansion tank cap' on my car when the OPC was suggesting a "slipped liner" or a "cylnder head gasket problem".
The cap was changed and what do you know... fixed!
Thanks Richard. I owe you several beers!
Happy New Year all!
Oh absolutely Ashley! The whole experience was a 'learning' one for me. Danielle (who was there at the time) and Caroline were very supportive of my situation.
Let's just say that 'words were exchanged'. The fault with my car was diagnosed correctly by someone in another part of the country while Porsche trained engineers (who had the car in front of them!) were telling me that the engine "may need a rebuild...."
PS - Need to have a look at your car Ashley... Matthew reckons a Turbo should be our next one!
Well, I was nearly correct... Richard's last posting on the 996 forum was "RE: Which Engine Oil ?" timed at "31/12/2009 22:29:10 "
Thanks for all your support in 2009 and here's to 2010 ;-)
Martin.
