I've seen these products tested somewhere (5th gear I think) and they agreed with what's been said here - decent modern petrols do all the necessary cleaning and the power gains from Redex et al were negligable and in some cases strangely worse than just petrol!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi saw some Redex on the shelf the other day in a car shop, would this do much for my 10 year old 996, claims to clean out the engine and injector nozzles, makes sense what it says, but anyone tried it?

POST 2Original post

The general feeling is that modern petrol additives do this function anyway.

POST 3Original post

Seconded: just fill with Super from a known brand (Shell, BP or Esso etc)

POST 5Original post

Sorry, didn't mean to patronise. I wrote use known brand (as in not Murco or other odd brands) and also supermarkets. Then thinking that Tesco is also a known brand, which I didn't wish to include, I complicated the answer by specifying the petrol stations. Should have just said "no cheap fuels"

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dont worry didnt think you were patronising, meant good knowledge knowing that it was in the fuel!

POST 8Original post

Contrary to the advice already posted, I found it beneficial on my 996. helped clean up the system and I noticed a slight improvement in mpg. The Redex that I think is good however in the "Upper Cylinder Lubticant" and this is good for freeing up piston rings in their grooves etc. Best Regards Big Bob
