I was running 19's on my scoob and for the 4 years on cobbled Edinburgh roads (that are the worst roads in the UK i think)covering 40.000 miles I never had to replace anything like shocks, bushes or wheel bearings etc only tires!!!

I like those wheels but as Adrien says above, they're not engineered to run with any 996.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

ok i want some 19s, i also want them in black to go on the yellow motor.
what are your views on these??

is this a good buy or are they crap??
I wouldn't do it personally - the ride quality will be sh!te...
I recently drove a 997 C2S and hated it - the salesperson said that the non-S drives better with 18s, but customer research forced them to go for 19s on the S versions - for cosmetic reasons alone.
Your car was not designed for them and the tyre forms part of your suspension system: If you take out a load of that compliance you will not only ruin the ride, but also affect the handling on bumpy corners (i.e. real roads).
The chassis/suspension on the 996 was not designed for 19's. It will take it, but expect premature wear on steering/suspension/wheel load bearing components.
The 997 was designed with 19s in mind.
I like those wheels but as Adrien says above, they're not engineered to run with any 996. The same wheel in 18" might be suitable if the offsets are the right ones. Then again, those wheels would only suit certain types and colours of 996's like GT3s, bodykitted versions, and light paintwork colours eg silver, yellow and black (ok black is the exception).
All imo of course.

Hi Webbo
Current price on Paul's Porscheshop Website is £1720 including Vat, obviously if you can offset Vat you can do the sums. The 18" option may also be worth considering at about £200 less.
The only impact I found was the added road noise and firmer ride.
However I could live with that for a great look and more predictable pointing and driving.
Best Regards Big Bob
I have 997 19 Turbo alloys on mine and they are great.. the ride is going to be a bit harder but not much.. the 996 suspension/steering wont be affected in any way by bigger wheels.. how can it there round arnt they!! it's not like were trying to fit a squaure brick in a round hole!!!!
you get better grip and cornering due to less flex in the tire and that the back wheels are 11 inches wide and best of all they make the car look allot better.. I hate the standard turbo wheels they look old and dated to me...
I would say go for it mate.. dont listen to anyone that says dont do it..
I think you've answered your own question there...
less flex means more shock transmitted to the springs, shocks, and bushes (and your backside). More weight and width means more stress on bearings, differentials and driveshafts...
Need I say more?
I can see what you mean but sorry to be controversial but I dont agree really..
Iin the long run it gets shot of those rank looking standard wheels, gives better grip and handling and looks ten times better and i'm not too bothered anyway really if i need to replace a few bushes or a shock..I dont think it will happen anyway..My Gf dad has a 997 turbo and when i fitted my 997 turbo wheels I looked at his cars suspension for clearance and also took his wheels off and it all looks the same under there... i'v come from a long line in car modifiying from mini's, Caterham's, scooby's and now my TT... I was running 19's on my scoob and for the 4 years on cobbled Edinburgh roads (that are the worst roads in the UK i think)covering 40.000 miles I never had to replace anything like shocks, bushes or wheel bearings etc only tires!!!
I guess it's your choice at the end of the day what you fit but i wouln't let talk of you wheel bearing packing up as soon as you lower the car back to the ground scare you.. I mod my car to enjoy it and make it not just another Porsche on the roads.. well If you have the money to buy and mod it then you'll have the money to look after it aswell...
your choice...
of course it's his choice, but I just have to point out one thing...
Bigger wheels and therefore smaller tyrewalls only gives better 'handling' on a race track. On real roads it actually means the tyre is in contact with the road surface LESS than a more compliant larger-sidewalled tyre.
Obviously bigger wheels gives a firmer ride, but improving actual grip and 'handling'... no it doesn't.
:floor:
UMMM Ye ok if you think so... so REAL roads arnt like race tracks then???... there flat,, made of black stuff and have corners...
sounds kinda the same to me... do your tires know when there on a track or a road then...
All roads are tracks to me thats why I get better grip and handling...
