Hi all, new to the forum
I own a 996 turbo, but the Mrs has a C2 which is fantastic, so i hope i'm welcomed.
The Mrs has been a silent watcher on this forum for a while now, I had a questions to ask so thought this would be the perfect time for us to sign up.
I'm currently in the process of selling my 996 turbo for a used 997 turbo which i have paid the deposit for ( can't wait). I had a few people come down and look at my 996, how ever they were detered because of the Range 1 and Range 2. This beats me as i've only but pampered the car! What is the best way for me reset this? I've herd softronic is the key but i'm not sure where or how I can purchase this?
If anyone can help, we would be very greatful
Welcome to the Planet!
Do you have the actual number of revs reported?
First of all, Range 1 and 2 over-revs aren't all that serious - they usually just indicate that you have taken it to the redline, or perhaps hit the rev limiter. I'm not sure how you can reassure skeptical buyers however, if they are ignorant of this.
If your Turbo has a Tiptronic, then it is virtually impossible to get into the higher rev ranges, because the computer prevents downshifts that could cause Range 3 or higher over-revs. In a manual tranny, if you force a downshift to too low of a gear, then you can get the higher rev ranges.
I think that reflashing the DME with Softronic might erase the previous over-rev data, but I'm not 100% sure. You might contact
Softronic
directly or email Scott at

with your questions.
P.S. Thread moved to 911 forum.
Thanks for your reply.
I've emailed Scott and PM'd Softronics.
If there's anyone else that can help guide us that would be great as i'm itching to get my 997
Hello and welcome...
I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure ranges 1 and 2 are mostly "normal"!
Hi thanks,
I know! Its not like i've driven it hard or anything either.
I had two people come to looks at it recently and they both came with a porsche specialist technician. Unfortunately they were put of from the figures in range 1 and 2!
I've searched the forum and can't find an answer, if any one can help it will be much appreciated
If you mean an answer to resetting the ignition range, I "think" its impossible. Maybe scott will be of better help, but I suggest you call him coz I hear he doesnt check his email often!
Hello,
Yes I can reset the over revs or change them to anything however I usually only do it for a flash that was purchased . These are mainly just changed for people that track cars etc and that are not in warranty.
The 996 and 986 cars show only range 1 and 2. The range 1 is usually from bouncing off of the rev limiter and with enough inertia it is set. The range 2 are considered more of a mechanical over rev.
Best,
Scott
Thanks for the reply Scott, If you only do this with the flash, then i'd like to purchase one.
Also, i'm based in the UK so would you still be able to flash program mine?
Thanks
Perfect, thanks Nick
I've sent you a PM Scott
