Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone
Well i'm new here and have had my 996 TT for a few months now... since I have had the car I notive that every time I open the bonnet with the key and open it up the car re-arms itself after about 10 seconds.. then when i'm finished putting the loaf of bread that I can fit in there and shut the lid the alarm sounds.. not only does it make me look like i'm stealing the loaf of bread but it's is annoying..
I have read on this forum that there is a pretty common problem wiht the switch in the latch.. I have had a look down the little slots in the plastic trim but cant see anything abnormal about it,,no matter how much pushing or poking around down there I do the light never comes on... the light does come on when the boot (engine) is open but turns off once it's shut...
Does anyone know how to fix this.. if so how do I go about it... is it needing a new switch or is the switch getting stuck down some how..
Any information would be great I know it's a small problem but it's an annoying one...
other than that the car is is very good and very fun...
Thanks
A
Welcome to the site, I am sure you will enjoy the car... as for the fault try wd40 on the obvious places, worth a shot.
So, AtomicVeilside?? An ex Jap car owner are we?

Hi.
Thanks for that I phoned up the garage i get the car and the tech guy told me to do the same.. if not they said to take it in and they can have a look at it..
funny you should say that I was a Jap car owner. Ye I had A 98 Scoob and it was kitted out with a veilside kit from you guys... was getting a bit long in tooth tho and was clocking over 100,000 miles.
I had that car for 5 years and it never once let me down or missed a beat..
I do miss it a little and the sound was amazing but hay at least now I can leave the nissan sunny pulsars and skylines for dust... well when i think about the the 996 tt leaves most things for dust.. Had some guy in an R8 behind me the other day.. no chance and simple case of bye bye and to see his face at the next set of lights was amazing...
I'll give the WD40 a go tonight and see if it works and will let you know how I get on....
one other thing.. I have noticed some little gremlins some times.. the other day I got in the car the radio turned on but there was no sound had to stop the car re lock it then unlock it ,start it and only then the sound was back... wierd...
Also when I open up the car the radio makes a clicking sound like the laser is trying to move past were it should be.. if I remove the CD in the radio i wont do it.. the length of time the clicking goes on for also changes, some times a second all the way up to about 5 seconds.. any idea's on this anyone??
All in all an amazing car and now know why people have them... you can keep your Astons with crap gear boxes that break and the breaking down of your F 360 I use my TT every day and love how it's an every day driver but when you want to unleash the super car in it it's there ready and waiting to make your heart jump out you chest... O and the back end is pretty lively too..

Your car has a CDR23 which relys on a MOST bus system. If removed you will see two Orange cables at the rear, this forms a loop with the amp and cd changer (if applicable)
When you jump in the car and switch on the ignition the MOST awaits a security code signal, I would assume this in someway did not connect properly causing the said fault.
Don't worry about it, it is possibly just a blipp, if it is the CD player that is faulty, I am about to sell a decoded MOST type on Flebay. (they are much better when decoded)
Thanks dude..
It's only done it once so I recon your right...
now it's just finding out what that dam clicking sound is that comes from the CD/ radio when the car gets un locked...
hmmmmm cant find anything on here about it...
Thanks fo your help..

Hi all
Got it sorterd with some WD40.
Just in case anyone else has this problem the switch is at the top left of the latch so you dont need to spray right down into the lock. I just used a screwdriver to close the latch with the hood open.. then just sprayed inside the little black bax on the left hand side of the lock.. and Ta Daaaaaa it now works..... just remember to unlock it again before closing the hood....
