I've had all the OEM speakers replaced too and it's a massive difference to before, the response across the range is that good I really do notice those tracks on my iPod ripped at poorer quality.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have just purchased a 2nd hand Bose subwoofer, which I am going to attempt to install in my car. The problem: although the carpet covering the speaker is black, its the wrong black....has anyone ever attempted to colour carpet? (is this at all possible?)

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ive answered my own query: I think I'll just get it re-upholstered or replace it with one of these in the right colour: http://www.autoacoustics.com/sbn-p996.htm

POST 3Original post

it's the wrong black because it's blue...........metropole

POST 4Original post

Did you have any joy finding someone to upholster the Bose Sub. I'm in a similar boat, bought a 2nd hand unit, mine's in the right colour but the upholstery is marked so depending on cost may consider getting it done.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

To be honest I haven't really pursued this any further, I was going to wait to hear the speaker first (Ive not yet connected it) if its good – I'll keep it and get it re-covered, if not I may look at other options. Its just Im a bit dubious that 2 5 ¼" speakers in a plastic box can faithfully reproduce low frequencies, (I may be surprised). Either way If I do find someone to do the work I will post it on here.

POST 6Original post

IMHO it's actually a pretty good unit and the reponse low-end is more than adequate, but then I'm no audiophile. I've had all the OEM speakers replaced too and it's a massive difference to before, the response across the range is that good I really do notice those tracks on my iPod ripped at poorer quality. It looks like the unit's been rested against something hot as there's a slightly melted contact line in the material, not overly noticeable so I can live with it for now.

POST 7Original post

Nick I had a whole install done a couple of months ago with http://www.autoaudio.uk.com/ . I had a bazooka base tobe in black and they installed it and leathered it the exact same colour of the leather interior. Im very fussy about where i take my car but when i got there my car had to be one of the cheapest cars there!! The place was full of ferrari's, lambo's and rolls royce phantoms, etc. The main guy there is greg and if you phone em and tell them peter with the silver 996 recommended you. Have a look at their website, i dont know how far awa ythey are from you but i wouldnt give my car to anyone else for any delicate or electrical work and ive been EVERYWHERE! regards peter

POST 8Original post

Agree with chipfork, the bose system spits out a goodly amount of bass though wound up too much can show up the odd rattle here and there but fiddle with the levels and its certainly more than adequate for an in car hi-fi. Get it fitted!
