Around town when the limit is say 25mph or 35mph or whatever I set the cruise control so I don't have to focus on the speedo.

Suggestion
In many places the limit is set low because of lots of cross traffic, pedestrian crossings (which don't always get used as pedestrians cross anywhere they want to), has a busy bike lane, etc.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

turning the ignition on and off solved the problem
I was driving my car last night using the cruise control. When I disengaged the cruise control and stepped on the accelerator pedal throttle response was greatly reduced. it was driveable but barely. even in neutral and freely reving the engine it just wouldnt directrly raise the rpms, it would raise them but there was a deffinite disconnect. no misfire, no rough running , just greatly reduced throttle response.
turning the ignition on and off solved the problem
problem can be fairly consistantly duplicated.
What expensive part is on its way out?
Thanks

For a 2003 you have e-gas, meaning electronic control of the accelerator to TB (no cable). First I would do the e-gas calibration - turn the key on without a start, wait 60 seconds, turn key off.
It sounds like the problem is with the accelerator pedal and associated components. Check here for parts

It could be the pedal binding, the upper cable that goes to the electronic sensor (Part #10) or the electronic sensor (Part #10). You might need to pull the whole accelerator pedal out and try to get some lube in the upper cable.
^^You seriously use cruise control on a manual Porsche??? I always thought that was a joke, but whom am I to throw stones? Ha!
Simple start would be non-related to the cruise control, but have you tried resetting the eGas calibration?
I kind of thought I was going to get flamed for asking about cruise control. I've got too many speeding tickets for spirited driving.
I haven't reset anything. no check engine lights .
all I have is an obd2 tool
1. Switch the ignition on for 1 minute without starting the engine.
Do not actuate the accelerator pedal (for instance, make sure
that there is not a carpet pressing on the pedal).
2. Switch off ignition for at least 10 seconds.
The following conditions must also be observed, otherwise learning
is not possible:
♦Vehicle is stationary
♦Battery positive voltage between 10 V and 16 V
♦Engine temperature between 5 C and 100 C
♦Intake air temperature between 10 C and 100 C
Before I accomplished the calibration prceedure , reduced throttle response happened without eating and disengaging cruse control. we will see what happens.
thanks
Don't let the cruise control haters get you down.
I read in the UK the speed limits -- enforced with speed cameras -- get set low and strictly enforced and accidents go up. The response is to screw the limits down even tighter.
Yet studies have shown that in these areas the drivers are not speeding but instead focusing on the car's dash watching their speed.
I use cruise control a lot in both of my cars. Around town when the limit is say 25mph or 35mph or whatever I set the cruise control so I don't have to focus on the speedo. I can then focus on the road ahead. In many places the limit is set low because of lots of cross traffic, pedestrian crossings (which don't always get used as pedestrians cross anywhere they want to), has a busy bike lane, etc.
At other times out on the open road, and this means generally for me given where I live and drive and my usual road trip route the "open" road doesn't begin until i-40 east of Barstow CA and then beyond I often use cruise control. This saves me the hour after hour of holding the gas pedal just so to maintain speed. 'course, I can accelerate to pass or turn off the cruise control to reduce speed using engine braking easy enough. My use of cruise control is just automatic. Might add the cruise control in both my 2002 Boxster and 2003 Turbo are the best cruise control systems I've ever had the pleasure of using.
BTW, I have and use regularly a V1 but I can still get pulled over and even issued a ticket. Whether I'm speeding or not makes no difference. If the radar gun alarm sounds and the officer spots a Porsche in the radar gun's "field of view" he's going to pull over the Porsche even if it is in the slow lane going a few mph under the limit.
Sounds like you have a bad TPS (Egas) it has 2 potentiometers in there, primary and secondary, when the primary one goes bad, the system will go into limp mode and only give you half throttle capability because the secondary syatem is set to only give you half throttle, so you can get the car off the road or train tracks. why they do this is most won't even attempt to fix this problem if the secondary was full throttle and next thing you know, you won't have any throttle to leave the train track with a train headed right for you.
this guy took his apart with some good pic's of the TPS.

I did the calibration procedure and drove the car quite a bit today and it seemed to be okay. And thanks a lot for the post with the detailed description on how to service the the pedal. Hopefully I won't have to do that procedure, but im prepared to do it if I need to
I grew up over there and go back every couple years. The biggest pain in the a$$ now are the average speed cameras. They have two cameras placed miles apart on the freeway that capture your plates at each end. So you have to keep an eye on your gauges the whole time. You'll see some guys doing 40mph in a 70 zone for 5 miles then 100mph for the next 5 miles just to beat the trap.
Since I left over 20 years ago that country now feels like a police state.
I'm a huge cruise control fan
car is manual too. I even use it just around town on short trips...
When I had the clutch spring out and it didnt work I really missed it!
As well as there being speed cameras everywhere here and highway patrol itching to give you points and fine you oh and we cant have radar detector devices
Dan, let me get this right... you use cruise control on a manual Porsche while driving short trips around town??? Really?
Do you live near a city like Atlanta or when you say "town" is it like a one-horse town in the middle of the desert?
Admitted I've never used it. I can't imagine driving a manual in cruise control in stop and go traffic. Maybe the cruise is highly sophisticated and can change gear for you?
