Thanks for the responses, I'll get on the phone to OPCs but also look into possibility of buying parts and getting them fitted (not bad with a spanner but mildly lazy and no garage  - well, thats my excuse...)

Suggestion
It's running the wiring that takes the time and bumps up the costs.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all
I've always fancied the switchable sports exhaust as an option for my facelifted 996 C2 - has anyone any experience of having this fitted, and any idea how much it is likely to cost?
Any recommendations in the Hampshire Berkshire Surrey area appreciated - I guess Northway may be an option...
Thanks for any thoughts, help, or advice
Andy
Hi and welcome,
Most people call this the PSE (Porsche Switchable / Sports Exhaust), so a search on that will give you loads of information.
It is a retro-fit option from your OPC and you are looking at between £1500 and £2000 depending on how they feel. It's running the wiring that takes the time and bumps up the costs.
There was a group buy going on recently but I think it has finished now.
There are other options including Oettle modified exhausts but no others are switchable as far as I am aware.
Good luck
I had a complete kit (minus the rear boxes) that I sold on eBay. It's not particularly complicated if you're handy with a spanner. You can buy the parts from
Carnewal
but given the price of the Euro you may be better off negotiating a price from an OPC.
PSE on a 996 is a must. Notts OPC were doing it for £1500 last year but not sure if they are still doing it at that price.
Phone around the various OPC's and get it booked in.......you certainly won't regret it.
Thanks for the responses, I'll get on the phone to OPCs but also look into possibility of buying parts and getting them fitted (not bad with a spanner but mildly lazy and no garage  - well, thats my excuse...)
Thanks again
Andy
FYI, info so far
Carnewal - 1595 euro = £1440 parts only
Northway - £1700 inc vat supplied and fitted
OPC Guildford - £1200 + vat + 8 hours labour to fit
More when I get a chance.....

If memory serves correctly, OPC Colchester charged £1400 for the 996 and £1350 for the 997, inc. fitting and VAT + a gen2 997 as a courtesy car, or collection from I think as far afield as central London.
That price was a 911UK group buy last year, but they might be desperate for business and do the same deal.
Clive
Hi all
I have recently bought a 996 Facelift car and fancy retro fitting the PSE. Can you direct me to where on the Colchester website I can find details of the offer?
Thanks
Was looking through old threads.. This seems to be the group buy that is being referred to:

Dow24: would be interested to hear what you find. I could consider joining in if that helps bring down the price anywhere.
Henrik
i organised the group buy last autumn at colchester opc. call them and ask for mike stebbings and mention the group buy and my name (Fraser). sure he'd extend it to you. far as i recall, Clive's prices were the ones we paid and they'd collect and deliver or lend courtesy car!, cheers.
Anyone fancy group buy for bluetooth telephone kit???
I also have a 2003 facelift 996.The car has done 97k miles and was told by the opc during my last service that the original exhaust muffers will need replacing in the next 6/12 months.
I thought about having a PSE that would cost in the region of £1500.I have just purchased the Oettle Performance muffers that are second hand standard 996 but with the bypass tube modification that they say sounds better than a PSE but is not switchable that cost £380 plus £25 delivery from Germany and has a two year guarantee.
It was delivered a couple of days ago so have not arranged fitting yet.
Bought it on ebay ,item number 290281350208
If its as good as they say and their feedback from previous buyers suggest seams to be a good deal.
Regards,
Ian.
Thanks for all the feedback, top forum and really good advice.
Will post more when i've done the deed and convinced the wife that it is money well spent (vs a new kitchen
).
Thanks all
I would just like to add my support for the Oettle mufflers for sale on E-bay.
I purchased a set 6 months ago and have enjoyed the sound of the car ever since.
They are not switchable but you can virtually switch them on and off with the throttle pedal. They are made with good quality genuine original Porsche units that look almost new. They are not boomy like many aftermarket units and only sound throaty on a rising throttle - at steady motorway speeds they sound like stock (from the inside anyway!).
Like the switchable OEM Porsche units I cant detect any performance improvement - only the sound.
Best bargain mod I can think of.
