Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Any thots from you 911 guys here? was this a good or bad year? I've been told its the first year for the S variant. Anything you feel I need to know would help (Price, issues to watch for, etc). I have a Cayman S now as a daily driver, and would like this for my "weekend" car. Thanks in advance. Slow Joe

POST 2Original post

I remember seeing these on the showroom when I went to see the 997 for the first time. Very nice car and it was very expensive. Most of the Turbo S cars here in S FL were cabs. I pulled some pricing from Excellence and it's pretty attractive compared to what these cars sold for new. The Turbo is my favorite of the 996 series. Have you found a particular car you're interested in? 2008 2009 2010 2005 S low $92,000 $52,000 $47,700 high $123,100 $69,600 $63,900

POST 3Original post

Last year of the 996 Turbo which means they worked out as many bugs as possible. The S is a end of model kicker to entice would be 997 buyers to not wait. I would think that it is the best year to buy. 450HP? Is that right? I looked at a bunch of 996 Turbos in 2006/2007. They would have been 2002 cars. I was bothered by the 996 interior and how it seemed dated compared to 987/997 cars. And I was spooked by potential maintenance out of warranty. Also, the fried egg headlights are the least attractive of the variants IMO. By most accounts the cars are bullet proof, though. Seems like a lot of car for the money.

POST 4Original post

They are good cars but they have gen 1 ceramics which would make me pass... I would rather have an earlier 996 turbo w/x50 highly optioned... You will save 15k and get the same car... JTP, just the car for you...It's Speeeeed Yellow! come on up to H2R Sunday afternoon for a free track orientation cheers, Papa

POST 6Original post

Casey's point about the Generation 1 PCCB is a very good one. The rotors are very expensive to replace and there were problems w/ cracking rotors that Porsche did not cover once the car was out of warranty or if they thought there was some "abuse". A lot of discussion about this a few years ago on ******** and renntech. I gather the PCCBs were standard on the Turbo S? Of course if you get a good deal on a Turbo S you can always replace w/ steel brakes.

POST 7Original post

As far as I know all PCCB brakes cost a fortune to replace (more than 20k USD). But does the 997.1 GT3 RS have the same PCCB problem?

POST 8Original post

No, I believe the 997s have the Gen II PCCB. The ceramic rotors were either redesigned or the material ws reformulated and the rotors are much less prone to cracking. What I don't know is when the change over was made between Gen I and Gen II.

POST 9Original post

No that is something someone made like some sort of odd "Cayman GT" badge You cant tell an x50 car from the outside. however the easiest way is to reach up and feel the intercoolers... They feel very different from the standard cooler. Dont need no stinkin ipod connector! Casey
