e92 M3 vs. 2011 GT3RS - BMW M3 Forum (E90 E92)
This guy buys one after test driving a C2S (didn't like it), complains about the road noise, seats, etc. Laughable comparison to M3.
I know it's near impossible to test drive one, but I'd at least try a regular GT3, or at least the sport buckets before dropping 150 large.
The part I don't get is that the guy still doesn't know why he chose the GT3RS over the others?!?!
More $$$ than brains!
If he bought stocks like he buys cars I don't think he'd be in the position to buy a GT3RS.
Seems like most people on that thread know what the GT3RS is about. And he seems to know that he'll enjoy the car more as he uses it more for what it's meant for.
Still, I think if I were going to spend $150k+ on a car I'd want to play with at least a similar beast. I mean, there's bound to be one that you can test out for less than $1k in expenses.
Sounds like the GT3 RS wasn't what he was looking for so he's probably correct in his assessment.
The M3 is a better street car than the GT3 RS. We, who drive the Cayman, know that actually our Cayman is the best streetable sports car on the planet.
The GT3RS is as close to a race car for the street as one can legally get. It is not a boulevardier, it's not a sports sedan, and it's not terribly practical. It is very mechanical, very immediate, and very connected to the road. If the GTRS doesn't work out for the owner it's the owner's fault for not understanding what he was buying before he wrote the check.
Dabrams, a quick answer to the title of your thread: YES! I did test drive the GT3 RS and frankly it did affect the impression I had for any other Porsche including the 997 turbo. You can read about it here:

Thank you for summing it up...
im on that forum too. originally, i was a m3 enthusiast, and spent a lot of time on that forum researching that car to death. however, all deals fell through when i couldnt get a
bmw
dealership to take me seriously (i was 22 at the time) even though i brought my 2 check books, named mom and dad. LOL! by the time i found serious client advisors, i already had my eyes on p cars, which is why i am on this forum now.
i can tell you, many people there suffer from dellusions of grandeur. they believe that their lil 55k
bmw
is a status symbol, people are jealous of them, are intentionally cutting them off, and believe that their cars are the end all be all in the auto industry.
the new owner of that gt3 rs is just plain stupid. how can you custom order a car without sitting in it? he wrote a review without breaking 4k rpm, automatically making his review invalid. he makes a lot of inane statements that just contradict himself. for example:
"But I still think the M3 is a better overall car for the money, and maybe even if you do not consider the price tag."
^^^^^^^^wow. hes trying to come off unbiased, but he utterly fails.
in my eyes, he has the perfect garage. a m3 for dd and a gt3 rs for the track. but he obviously doesnt it see it that way.
OP: I suggest 1 of two things. If you're a serious buyer, find a used example near you and arrange a test drive. No reason why you shouldn't be able to do so. Option #2 (what I did) was befriend a GT3 owner and see if they'll let you take it for a spin. I met an owner not to far from me on ******** and after we became friendly, he offered me the opportunity. Another member here who upgraded put it best when wondering if he would miss his Cayman after getting a GT3. His response "Cayman who?". As great as the CS is, the GT3 is simply overwhelming by comparison.
What I find really interesting is that on an M3 forum, people were jumping on him saying the Porsche was better! At least all bimmer drivers aren't close minded, and really aspire for a P car!:hilarious:
