Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I picked up my new to me 2002 996 today. I just picked it up from the shipper a few hours ago. I am having some issues with the wipers and hope someone can help me. They do not work when the car is running. When the car is on, but not running, they work. I checked the 25 amp fuse and it seemed good. I replaced it with another 25 amp fuse anyway and same thing. If you can give me any advice on fixing this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

POST 2Original post

Try this, with the car running and the wipers "on" wiggle the key a little. If they start you might have to replace the electrical part of the ign switch. Failure of this piece is not uncommon and it can cause many seemingly unrelated electrical gremlins. Replacing the switch is a DIY (do a search, there are a plethora of threads here and @ Renntech.org) and the part can be purchased for $15.00<. Here is one of many https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...on-switch.html

POST 3Original post

I don't know if this is the problem, but I had both locknuts go loose on me at the same time. I needed to lift up the cover at the base of the wiper. Then with a thin walled socket, tighten the nut inside the cover. If that doesn't help you, you've gone beyond my mechanical expertise. Sorry I couldn't help more. larry

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies. I am going to check out what both of you mentioned when I get home today.

I will post them soon. I drove back in the snow and the car is a bit dirty now. A bit hairy with no wipers when semis are spraying you!

Some of us have computers that have not lead sheltered lives. The last laptop I operated off of I will never trust after the trips it has been on. Quit buying desktops although I have seen a few at times that seem right with ham radio in mind. But none the less I finally did the member thing after going down and buying two new laptops free of exposure to viruses and others using them and sticking contaminated usb sticks in them. Now I have a bankrupt brother and his computer on the network. He arrived with all sorts of advise on the greatest antivirus and antimalware programs to load on computers. I bought him an antivirus program to put on his fantasticly protected computer and he says the program caught upteen virus, worms and what nots on his computer. I gave him a clearwire wireless moden to use and instructions to use it and stay off the network when he first arrived. Finaly figured out he was on the wired network and not using what I gave him. Do I trust my computer now with his stink butt on my side of the hardware security? Heck no. He's costed me a fortune and still at it. Next time around to get a membership on here I'm passing until the brother is gone and another computer is in use.
