I see them briefly after turning on the ignition, but not starting the engine, before the oil check display comes up.

I'm also pretty sure that if you do not want this info line on, you can deactivate it using the on-board computer stalk...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I hope I've done due diligence and this hasn't been asked and answered before - or worse, that I'm hallucinating. Here goes.
I somehow managed to get a line of 4 dashes displayed in the center line of the onboard computer display - below the digital speedometer and above the average mpg - while the car was running and underway. It looked odd to me - I didn't remember ever seeing it do that before, couldn't remember what was supposed to be there, and was too distracted by traffic to think about it much. The audio system was turned off. I have the CDR-24 with
Bose
, no chrono, no mods.
Has anyone else seen this or have an idea what I might have done to put the system in this state? Is this really some normal behavior and I'm just having a major brain cramp?
Thanks,
Deb
This is correct... I also believe that when you turn the radio or CD player off, the lines will not re-appear. They'll come back the next time you put the key in the car and turn it on, if the radio or CD is not on.
I'm also pretty sure that if you do not want this info line on, you can deactivate it using the on-board computer stalk...

I get the four dashes when the "miles to empty" referring to the amount of fuel left on the tank is actually zero. Meaning...."fill up you dumb axx.....otherwise your car is about to stall....NOW":hilarious:
Yeah, that much I figured.
There's the puzzle. They do NOT come back on when I start the car with the audio system off. I see them briefly after turning on the ignition, but not starting the engine, before the oil check display comes up. If I dismiss the oil display, I have the dashes, but they disappear when I start the engine. I have not replicated the dashes staying on with the engine running.
Yes, that's true. Thanks for mentioning it - I hadn't found that part of the menu yet.
Thanks for the input, guys. I'm going to keep experimenting.
Cheers,
Deb
As brad said, and after my personal expirementation, it will go away if you turn on the car with the radio ON. Sometimes it just disappears and gives the correct info if the radio is off then turned on. Other times it doesnt!

What dose this mean ??
Hi
After a gas fill , I notice that a strange display is shown in the central display. In the area inbetween the digital MPH and the display that tells remaining miles till next fill up. There are 4 dashes - _ _ _ _ that display. After you turn off the car and restart this area is blank. What do these dashes mean ??
Thanks Joe Parisi Salem Ma .
Re: What dose this mean ??
I'm guessing you have your display set to show remaining mileage until empty. After refilling, the car needs some time to recalculate.
Re: What dose this mean ??
the display lne just below the speed indicator, and above the miles remaining called the "bottom display"), is called the "central display." It is generally used to show the information about the current state of the audio system - what radio station is tuned-in or what track is playing on a CD either in the single or 6-CD player. It can also be turned off. My guess is your radio or CD player wasn't on...
See page 93 in the 2006 owner's manual.
Take a look at this thread, too:

I just drove 6 hours in my cs. when I left home, the display was as always, displaying song title, etc. Halfway thru, I fill up and let my son drive. 2 hours later, I notice 4 dash lines, even though the radio is still displaying the normal stuff. Turn the radio off and on, no difference. I'll have to check it out tomorrow.
Some stations don't transmit any messages, were you on one of those stations?
Also, these messages are digital, not analog (like the music). If there is any disruption in the signal at all, you can lose a few bits of the digital message. The radio can't decipher the rest of the message without those few bits. Ever seen a song title with a few letters missing? This is what is happening. On the other hand, if there is a disruption in the analog signal, you actually hear the noise over the speakers, as the noise and the analog signal mix together.
Drove the car today to run some errands and back to normal. I don't know what happened but it resolved itself somehow. As long as it doesn't happen again.
Re: What dose this mean ??
my bet is the last word is "manual"...
but seriously, it is what an earlier responder said... the car takes a little time to calculate how far until the next fill up.
