Only thing i notices is that the list for the carrera models has a seperate cost for plug change, where the turbo doesn't, so maybe this it to try make the carrera service cost "look" cheaper at 1st glance, where the turbo major service cost includes the plug change cost?

Many have made technicians redundant as customers now use main dealers to keep up the service stamp but have repairs done by independents or even do it themselves.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

From this link on the Porsche website: http://www.porsche.com/filestore.as...icepricing-type996&lang=none&filetype=default Why is the major service for a turbo twice the price of a Carrera 4 etc. Only thing i notices is that the list for the carrera models has a seperate cost for plug change, where the turbo doesn't, so maybe this it to try make the carrera service cost "look" cheaper at 1st glance, where the turbo major service cost includes the plug change cost? Just an idea... What do they do to the turbo on a major service that doubles this cost otherwise? Just trying to do some more homework before i go looking for my long waited turbo...! Thanks

POST 2Original post

Welcome to 911uk - :bye: Dave (one of the Mods on here) has a 996 TT, he should be along tonight or tomorrow..

POST 4Original post

A Major on the Turbo includes a spark plug change. Unlike the C4, the rear PU has to be removed, along with intercoolers and heat shields. Book time for a plug change is 3 1/2 hours.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Doesn't look too bad service cost wise, only a bit more than i paid for my Audi. And another bonus is i just got a good insurance quote!

POST 7Original post

I think the extra labour hours (re 4/5) to give a 996T/GT2 it's big service is the reason. You won't get much change out a grand at an OPC so don't put it in one!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I live about 20 mins from Paragon, so may investigate their service costs as a good independent. Thanx for the advice !

POST 9Original post

Push OPC and they'll give you a discount. I've been offered 15% on my next major in the coming weeks. :thumb:

POST 10Original post

OPC Menu price to do a major service on a 996TT is £1029.00 You need to ring around and ask for discount as OPC's will want to keep cars within the network. These are very lean times for main dealers and moreso for those that cater for higher end marques. Many have made technicians redundant as customers now use main dealers to keep up the service stamp but have repairs done by independents or even do it themselves. I personally did lots of research on this for the service on my 996TT. I rang around and spoke to lots of OPC's. The one that stood out was Cardiff OPC and the service manager there is Martin Wright. He rang back every time and answered every question. They gave me a good discount when I said I was considering going to an indy and gave me many good reasons why I should take my car there instead. I was treated very well indeed and was happy with the price. If you have any doubts or want to be treated very well give Martin a ring, his direct number is 02920 350920. Tell him I sent you. Im not saying how much he did my car for but lets just say it was less than the menu price coupled with great service. He emailed me pics of my car on the ramp with the bumper and intercoolers off, many dealers miss out the back two plugs as they are difficult to get at and they cant be bothered to take the bumpers off...and it has been known for some to charge for it when they havent!! So yes the dearer menu price is mainly down to the spark plug change!!
