Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there, I'm new to the forum and new to Porsche's. Just bought a 2003 996 Targa about Oct 08. Have recently noticed the rear passanger side carpet slowly getting wetter and wetter. Also noticed that under the rear seat is also very wet. I think the added moisture in the car is also resulting in the car being very diffcult to demist and lots of moisture on the windows and room glass. (It doesn't help that the AC condenser's have gone, but they will be fixed next week) I'm looking for some help on where to start my search for the water leak? Could it be the roof drain holes? Door Drain holes? ANy help pr suggestion would be very much appreciated as it's mu project for this weekend. Thanks....

POST 2Original post

Welcome to 911uk! Only a suggestion but I have been helping someone with a Volvo with the same problem...its a leak/corroded heater pipes behind the dash, think the heater matrix is still ok but this is a common problem and a total pain in the arse requiring a lot of dash disassembly. I do hope its not the same for you but one way to tell is if the windows are misting up and it feels greasy (antifreeze) not just damp. Dab some kitchen towel to see what colour it is as if its coloured then its a sure sign, if generally clear then its more likely water ingress from a seal or something. Do report back, hopefully we can get to the bottom of it.

POST 4Original post

A client of mine has a similar problem on a 996 Coupe. Any thoughts?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Many thanks Richard, I was swaying towards that, but I thank you for your response. May I ask if you have any experience of trying to clear it? What would be the best method for DIY, or is it is a dealer job? (Would prefer to avoid porsche hourly rate if possible) Also do you know where the drain come out on the car? Many thanks again. Cheers, Chris.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Richard, sorry should have added. 1. Is it possible to see the other end of the drain pipes? To know that you have pushed something through and it is clear? 2. How about the wet carpets, what do you recommend as the best method to dry? Hair dryer? Removal of carpets (Prefer not to is possible) Thanks again, Chris.

POST 8Original post

I haven't done the roof drains, only the ones in the front, near the battery, which you can poke out with a screwdriver. If I was going to tackle the roof drains, I'd use a low pressure airline airline.

POST 9Original post

I had this issue a little while back.... very simple to do, please do not pay OPC... If you local, more then happy to lend a hand.... http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=33...&postorder=asc&highlight=leaks+leaking+drains

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Many thanks for the offer, but I'm based in Glasgow. I think I know what my project is for the weekend; 1. Check and clear out drain holes. 2. Check membrain on door and rear side panel. 3. Check door seals. I'm suspecting the rear side panel membrain (Can anyone confirm that there is a Membrain on the rear side panels, as I only read people talking about door membrains??) or the rear roof drain holes as the water looks to be on the rear carpet under the seat pad as well as on the rear foot well. (Left hand side) So I'm thinking the water is coming in and travelling down from the seat area to the floor. A further note to my self is to try and remember to clear all drain holes on a regular basis. Where I live there are lots of trees and many leaves lying on the drive /cars etc. Many thanks to all your help, I'll let you know. Cheers, Chris.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone for all your help. Going through the drying out process now. Located the problem to a wrongly fitted rear window. Found some peices of glass and have to assume the window has been smashed at some time begore I bought the car. Anyway the problem is that the additional seal around the window frame section was not put back on and water was coming in at the back corners and running down behind the rear seats. Fitted new seal and looks to have stopped any water coming in. Now just need to dry the car out. Not as bad as I originally thought, but as it's my daily car, I can't leave it parked up in a heated garage or with a dehumidifier. Although it will be this weekend as I've told my wife we'll need to use her car all weekend. Thanks everyone. Cheers, Chris.

POST 13Original post

Any chance of a similar diagram for the 996 cab. I've got a slightly damp rear carpet as well which is misting up the windows.
