Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use bolts' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '......for anything else' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fleabay & jegs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

another thought is the quality of the lubricant to be used on the threads and under the head bolt flange.

if they are indeed TTY bolts i would hold the repair manual in suspect ......for anything else .

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Porsche repair manual say, i can re-use head bolts and crankshaft bolts.
However, whether it is important to change the new
? many cars I have used the old bolts with no problems but with the Porsche I'm not sure
Both are torque to yield bolts that should be replaced. I know what you're talking about in the manual (I saw that too) but do you really want to take any risks? The bolts are expensive but in the grand scheme of things not too bad. Check out sunsetporscheparts and rose passion porsche for good deals.
For a little more you can use ARP head bolts and rod bolts. I did and am glad I did.If you are on a tight buget ,at least get the rod bolts from ARP. Ask here for opinions ?
If you get the codes from ARP for head bolts - call "Summit" - it's a 20% off with free shipping - they will drop ship if not in stock - like the boys say - don't skimp in that part of the build.
I have concerns using stronger that stock head bolts. These bolts need to stretch a certain amount when the engine gets hot. A stronger bolt can cause the threads to pull out of the block. I don't remember reading that the head bolts are a problem with this engine so there is no need to use anything other than stock.
Stronger bolts does not mean that the bolts will not stretch. The bolt designers are aware of required stretch per application and design bolts accordingly.
That's not necessarily the case. In the 928 field, there were reported incidences where stronger bolts/studs, pulled the threads out of the block. If a bolt is stronger, it will stretch less but maybe I'm wrong.
Not that I read of. The ARP bolts were significantly more than what the dealer was asking for OE.
So, the fact that i didnt read too much on head bolts failing and the cost of the ARP's, I rolled the dice on OEM ones.
Guys, head bolts are not known to fail in our engine. Even the RND engines use stock (or OEM) head bolts. There's no real data for reused head bolts. They may fail or they may not.
The ARP studs are good if you plan to remove and resintall your heads later on for whatever reason after the initial rebuild as they are reusable. They are supposed to give you a more even clamping force. Again, it's NOT a problematic area so I would rather spend my money somewhere else.
Here is a thought, remember with a TTY bolt we are taking the bolt to the point the bolt will start to deform and not return to it original spec., now with a iron steel head I have never had a issue with reusing TTY head bolts over once again, but with a aluminum head, the expansion rate of the head is twice of that with a iron steel head, your are taking the Porsche head bolts into that range and i would never reuse the head bolts again. another thought is the quality of the lubricant to be used on the threads and under the head bolt flange. does make a difference on the amount of friction created during tightening.
