POST 1Original post

Got a December build for a Seal Grey / Black interior - current status is 'order accepted'. Ordered in May (UK) I've been wavering for a while about this, but after much on/off deliberation between the two colours, I now think that Cobalt Blue / Black is the bees knees. Possibly flawed post midnight reasoning: Porsche chose it as a featured colour, so it can't be bad. Their photos make it look amazing. Even in the non-press shots on this site I think it looks good. Seal lacks the appeal it had - it's just.. grey isn't it? ;-) Black (Full Leather) interior because it looked good in the showroom. And the interior switches will match the interior (also getting PCM, but don't want it taking over) I settled on the Seal initially because though I liked the idea, I thought a dark colour would show scratches too easily, and the Artic Silver seems very common (there's a lot of other people's Porsches in the garage beneath my building). It seemed like a happy medium. Q: Is it too late to change? Has anyone else changed their mind this late? Am I insane? Will this delay my build? (I probably shouldn't mind a week or three if I get the right colour for me) It's almost 2am here, a little early to call my dealer. Somebody please give an opinion, however inane. This site drives me bonkers. I try not to get excited, then find myself absent mindedly typing in the URL...

POST 2Original post

At least with orders in the US, you can change untill you get a build date. I changed my order to add 19's and the sport shift 3 days before my order was locked and a build date assigned. By the way, just same pictures of a 997S can with seal and cocoa on another board and it was incredible. I would stay with seal and upgrad the interior to full leather and something other than black, but that's just my opinion. Now, get some sleep and stop obsessing. JHellow

POST 3Original post

Both sound very nice. I think you can still change if you hurry. The Blue will be unique. You will not see many I'm sure. In northern New Mexico I see a Porsche about every two weeks so my Artic Silver/Cocoa will not be common.

POST 4Original post

I originally went with Seal Grey and full Black interior, but was worried that it would be too dark inside. So last week I changed it to the Black / Stone Grey interior which really lifts it. There is a picture on this website of the two-tone posted a couple of days ago. I personally stayed away from the blue as I owned a Linerite Blue SLK for 5 years and it is a great colour - always looked nice and wasn't prone to scratches or showing the dirt. Fancied Grey this time - evidently it's the fastest crowing colour for all cars.

POST 5Original post

I ordered Seal because I wanted to maintain a conservative image with a flashy car. I am having second thoughts thinking maybe I should have ordered SY or red, but I think everyone has second thoughts after locking in their order. I am thinking about options I would like that I did not order. I am thinking about options I ordered that I am now thinking maybe I do not need. I think this is normal, and believe me, when our cars arrive we will no longer be having second thoughts about color or options. I think we will be thrilled to death to have our cars and will be very happy with the color and option choices.

POST 6Original post

First make sure you absolutely want Cobalt by seeing it in person first. It's one of those colors that in my opinionlooks better in photos than it does in person. Photo's make it look darker than it actually is. I have seen it on 996s, 997s, and Boxsters........and each time I have tried to like it and justify its cost, but just can't do it. If at all possible see it in person first, then make a decision. If you already have and love it that much.......go for it! All you have to do is make yourself happy.

POST 7Original post

I think it looks fantastic in yellow, but would never be brave (or foolish) enough to buy one. It does really suit the Cayman though ! It's one of those colours that could seriously go out of fashion in a couple of years and really impact on resale value. I think you're safe with the other colours though......

POST 8Original post

Thanks for the advice guys! Atlas - I think you're right. Though I did take a good look at the Cobalt on a 997 in the showroom about a month ago. I got as far as ringing the dealer and umming and erring at him! These are the 2 pictures I am currently drooling over: http://www.planet-9.com/pic_display.asp?id=475 (Cobalt) http://www.planet-9.com/pic_display.asp?id=318 (Seal - I *think*) I won't go into options, I'm pretty set on those - Comfort over Speed for me. Would like to see that two tone interior picture though!

POST 9Original post

You can see the two-tone interior on pics of my 2005 Boxster S at http://www.kcrpca.org/boxster.asp

POST 10Original post

Nice two-tone shot. If they would have offered this in Black/Terracotta.......I would have changed my whole car around it......<input type="image" src="/UserFiles/3942.jpg" />

I had a December build and my change requests were all denied then on Saturday my dealer called and told me why. He said even though I had a December build the car was already at check point 8 and into production schedule to be complete on November 30, so much for a December build. I am not complaining! I also have Cobalt and if it is lighter in person all the better with me. Aloha Russ

POST 13Original post

gbn, They use rare emolients combined with the element cobalt and ....................blah blah. Ha ha!! Just kidding. I guess it cost more because their are people like me that are willing to pay for it? I was really hoping that there was another reason, but so far I haven't found it/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/sad_smile.gif. Maybe when I see it in person I will know why? Aloha Russ

POST 14Original post

Pretty much no reason at all. Last year forest green was $3070.......this year it is $825.......Dark Teal that was $825 is now $3070. Dark Olive is $3,070 on a Cayman, 997, or Boxster.........but is something like $495 on a Cayenne.......go figure. Porsche has a group of colors thatget mixed around between 'special' and 'metallic' every few years to keep it interesting I think. There is nothing 'special' about the formulation of any of the special paints. The paint formula for Arctic Silver is very close to GT Silver......GT just has a bit more grey in it......nothing more. If you gotta have GT though......you have to pay $$$ for it. I'm just glad Atlas Grey is a standard metallic this year.......next year it could be a 'special' color.........I wonder if that willmake my Croc go up in value?....../fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/teeth_smile.gif

POST 15Original post

. . . FWIW seal is classic and timeless whereas cobalt is just blue and a 'coloured' car other than shades of silver, greysor blacks can get boring after a while andcan date- would be easier to shift come resale too. Dean

POST 16Original post

V6 TT, I will have you know that I resemble[/quote] that remark! After having the presence of all color (black) I needed a real color, besides it will match these beautiful Hawaiian Skies and the ocean! Aloha Russ

POST 17Original post

So.. I called my dealer today.. turns out I'm at stage 'F' of the process, and 'C' is when everything is locked down. I can't change anything now. Except maybe add a tracking device. No build date, though he expects that date to be allocated in 2 or 3 weeks time. So exactly how long does it take for a boat full of cars to travel from Finland to the UK, over Xmas? Incidentally, the cars they are showing at my particular launch day in a week will be Basalt, Arctic, and Cobalt... Did I mention I LOVE Seal Grey?

POST 18Original post

Seal Grey is a great color and having your Cayman that far along in the process is even better. Can't wait can you?

POST 19Original post

Squirrel, I am wondering how long it will take to get my car from Finland to Hawaii? I think you will beat me. If you are going to the launchI hope you can get some pics. Aloha Russ

POST 20Original post

I'm guessing 1-2 weeks for mine to arrive once it's built, based on hazy geography and no facts whatsoever. People must know from previous experience with their Porsche orders? I might take some pics, not sure yet... it's only the launch at one of several London dealers, nothing too special ;-) I did suggest to the dealer that he gives away some freebies, which he thought was a good idea!

POST 21Original post

Squirrel, From my perspective you are blessed to have so many dealers launching. Hawaii has one dealer on one Island, and it is a small dealership sellng mostly Land Rovers.Thank God for this website as we will all be able to sahre in the fun no matter where we are in the world. Aloha Russ

POST 22Original post

There's nothing wrong with seal gray, it's a great color. But it's also a common theme for caskets and sleeping's for dead people. So, Caymans are meant for driving. Add some color to your life and get the Cobalt Blue. Did you see Guards Red in the new Pano issue? Looks mighty awesome, as well.

POST 23Original post

Caymanites, Honestly there is not a bad color!! It is just a matter of taste. I LOVE red but it is not for me. The grays are all rich and classy looking, but I have had black and white most of my life. Living in Hawaii the Cobalt seemed like a perfect choice. I love em all! This is the sweetest little car I have seen in a long time and I just don't think you could hurt with any color. Sorta like Anjolina Jolie, how could she ever look bad. (Wife is still at work) Aloha Russ
