I replaced all of my suspension arms and was instantly rewarded with a sublime ride.
Leading evidence: 'Replace of my suspension arms and was instantly rewarded' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'good idea' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check bumps stops or getting them' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Probably a good idea to do, I'm thinking of getting the transmission, oil and diff oils changed, probably a good idea to do the mount too.

worth checking the bumps stops or getting them replaced

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
I have a 2003 996 c4s, tiptronic.
The car runs fine but the ride feels very hard and jarring.
In order to try and improve the car, it has got new coffin arms, tuning forks, and links both back and front, including new engine mounts but was hard before the new parts were added
I have tried to reduce the tyre pressure but the ride still feels very hard, although a slight improvement after tyre pressure reduction.
My tyres seem to be in good condition, although looking at the DOT info, they do seem to be from 2016
When the road is very smooth, car handles and rides really well, but even the slightest roughness the car will fall and crash hard.
The garage where my car went for the work (Porsche specialists Romford) said that the car rides fine but I have noticed that the front falls pretty smooth or less painful but the rear is a hard fall although as though there is no damping
The previous owner did tell me that the front shocker mounts were replaced and they do look new but I have no idea if the rears are still on the original.
I have tried to attach a clip of a recording whilst driving on a slight rough road. At the second and I think 7 or 8th second and the 11th second is where the rear falls - actually the upload doesnt work so ive put it on youtube - unsure if it works so please let me know if it doesnt
https://youtu.be/rKjrPjecYMs
What I wanted to ask was, are my shockers bust? the garage says it rides tight and fine, there is no leakage but of course this doesnt mean anything
Could it be just the shocker mounts that need to be replaced?
Do the AWD cars drive like this? softer on front and fall hard on the rear?
Can I interchange 997 rear shock mounts on my 996?
Any help is much appreciated
As you're (quite rightly) concerned to get the suspension working as it should I think I'd give Centre Gravity a call. They can also test the shocks to check if still in spec and set camber, castor and toe for you.
Might need a night in Coventry Travelodge too but I'm sure CG can advise how long it might all take. :thumb:
i has this issue on my C4S - nearly rattled my teeth out of my head. Mine was down to age hardened bushes. I replaced all of my suspension arms and was instantly rewarded with a sublime ride. IT also highlighted that my engine mounts were shot so subsequently replaced them.
Hello
Thank you for the suggestions
Getting to CG at the moment might be quite tricky, but I have seen them being suggested a lot in forums
here is a sound clip of the car as I realise the Youtube clip is not working.
Also, I did have my Engine mounts done as I was getting a knocking noise if I floored it from standstill, however even now with the new mounts, im still getting the knocking sound so could that possibly point more to the shocker mounts?
Appreciate a CG diagnoses is going to work valuable in the long run here

Are the nuts on the eccentric bolts tight enough on the rear coffin arms? Mine weren't very tight all round (front and rear coffin arms), in fact so loose on the front it made a very similar knocking noise to this.
As far I know yes they should be tight
It's always made this sound and hard drop which has progressively got worse
I will look into new shocker tops and bump stops etc but I wonder if it might be worth just getting new shocks and mounts on the rear. Probably opt for the b4 or b6, but the b6's are supposed to be stiffer.
Although I'm pretty sure then the front will feel off and then I'll end up replacing all 4 shocks and tops
Can the springs cause sounds like this?
Does anybody know if the 997 awd shocker mounts fit the 996 c4s?
Thanks
911 and Porsche World did a test day on suspension in Jan 2020 edition. We gathered a group of cars with different suspension to find the best ride. CG wre very involved and have learned more since then.
Does your car have standard springs and dampers?
Hello
Yes I do think I have standard shocks and springs. The front shocks seemed new from inspection while still mounted in the car, as do the mounts from
Underneath
I did think of the transmission mount but not read that much about it. Probably a good idea to do, I'm thinking of getting the transmission, oil and diff oils changed, probably a good idea to do the mount too. Any ideas on how to inspect it? I imagine the transmission mounts can look good but can still be in poor condition
I'm guessing the transmission mount can't cause a hard ride. Still rather tempted to get the shocker mounts done.
If it was my car I'd first get it inspected by my trusted Indy to (1) identify the suspension components on the car, (2) their condition. Then before spending any money I'd give CG a call to get their view with this info and your requirements. Arrange a call with Chris or Pete. They are happy to talk through options and share advice. Then you can decide what & where to get work done, and where to invest.
Ride quality is very subjective & personal. One persons perfection, is another's annoyance. Good luck :thumb:
I've just recent had the car go to Porsche specialists Romford for new coffin arms, tuning forks, links and engine mounts. They did say the car drives tight but to me something just feels off.
I'm based around Chigwell
Thank you
