Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, I'm hoping some of the knowledgeable guys on here can help me out - I'm attempting to remove and replace the standard rear wing on my 2002 996 Turbo coupe. I've got a C-spanner and can rotate the post, but the wing never seems to "pop up" out of it's retaining slot like it does in the videos. I've gone as far as rotating it 360* in either direction (I know clockwise is the correct direction to release), but nothing happens - the piston sleeve just rotates, even when I try to put moderate lifting pressure on the wing (not easy whilst trying to rotate the piston sleeve!). Can anyone please help me understand what I'm doing wrong? :thumb:

POST 2Original post

Yep, the outer sleeve is free to rotate. The hole needs to line up with the blind drill hole in the inner part to disengage the mechanism. I found the easiest way was to apply a light pressure with my finger on the tip of the c-spanner as I rotated it until you feel the nose drop into the hole. Give it a wiggle and make sure you have a good bite before you turn. It should turn relatively easily 90° lifting as it rotates and then 'pop up' as it comes free. Important tips: 1. Loosen the Allen bolts just slightly so the rams are free to move before fitting the new spolier, it will make sure nothing is strained as it operates. Tighten once the spoiler is fitted to both rams. 2. When you re-fit make sure you turn the collar slightly further once the spoiler is fully seated so that the hole in the outer collar is not lining up with the inner hole (this will help prevent water getting in and rusting the parts together)
