Suggestion
For the repair just cut a couple slots for the new cover and slip it over the existing hook.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
i hope somebody can help me.
I have a problem with a 2003 996.2 convertibe top in US spec. The top doesn't close. The hook in the middle who fastens the top runs up and down in an endless loop.
After further investigation it seems that the black plastic cover around the hook is broken and i think there is something missing.
I also found some other parts under the seat. I'm not shure if they belong to the cover.
Can anybody help me identify if there is something missing on that cover and where i can get an new one / parts number.

Thanks in advance.
Try this from Auto Atlanta to see if it's what you are looking for. Looks to be items 6, 11, 12

Thanks!
I think the cover i need is part of the whole actuator assembly 99656101701. But i really only need the cover. The actuator seems to be fine.
Would be nice if somebody can show me what is missing on that cover, besides it's broken. Couldn't find any pictures on how it should look like.
Thanks. I think my hook and hook cover looks different than the one in the post you've mentioned. Car is a 996 convertible built in 2003.

Missing part on back.
That plastic sleeve covers the metal hook and activates the microswitch that will allow you to use your rear windows. W/o it, you'll be sticking a finger in there to activate the switch. I got my replacement from Pelican. However, I'm going to have to find a way to install it because there doesn't appear to be a way to easily install a replacement, other than taking the whole thing apart. So my plan is to cut a slit on both holes install it then weld it back together. WARNING, be sure to put your top in service position before you take the motor out. Otherwise you'll be recalibrating and it doesn't alway work with the Durametric.
Good luck!
Thanks for the warning. In worst case i have a Piwis 3 to do a calibration.
Looks like somebody has worked on the car before, because it seems somebody cut the hook cover so had not to remove the complete mechanism. I hate those shortcuts. Now i understand why it's broken in multiple parts so extremly.
Yogi enjoyed watching your journey and surprised I have something to contribute.
you dont have to take apart anything to get the latch cover on. Just cut a notch in the latch cover where the pin would slide through and seat the cover on the pin using the notch. I have a thread with a lot of pictures showing how to do it on the front page right now.
good luck

My 01 convertible has 2 holes. But try using electrical tape and wrap the lower and back part of the hook several wraps. Worked for me till I got the plastic piece.

thanks that was useful advice, I just cut a slot around the two holes in the cover then it just clipped on around the post. Roof working perfectly again. A small piece at the nose of the cover had broken off.
I wrote that repair thread. probably the easiest (and cheapest repair ) I ever did.
Looking at your picture your original latch cover had the tip break off. That's the part that activates the microswitch.
You can test it's the cover by closing your top and as the broken latch tries to catch use a pencil and push the microswitch. The top will then finish closing as normal.
For the repair just cut a couple slots for the new cover and slip it over the existing hook. took me 15 min total.
It's been working great since whenever I wrote that how-to.
