To say it has been used sparingly in that time is an understatement, both with the obvious lack of places to go, but also I've been taking the opportunity to fix up a few things which has meant it's been in bits during weekends instead of going for a drive.

The last MoT was 13 months ago, and never had any issues until, ironically, I was doing some pre-MOT testing and it let go while I was checking all the brake lights worked

As it happens the split was readily accessible and could be repaired so I didn't need to follow this up but it might be worth considering if the damage is inaccessible.

Before i book it in to get fixed I thought I'd confirm that this is the pipe over the gearbox and not an easier one to replace with some determined diy?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The car was sat for a month or so while I sorted some electrical issues and while those are fixed, I've now have no brake pedal and a fresh leak from back of the car Before i book it in to get fixed I thought I'd confirm that this is the pipe over the gearbox and not an easier one to replace with some determined diy? Pic is looking up from underneath and the leak is dripping of the pipe circled in red, but feels like it's running down from the area in blue, which does feel rough and corroded

POST 2Original post

Difficult to see exactly where that is, but if that really is a brake pipe, that was lethal and could have let go at any time. How on Earth did that pass an MOT within 12 months? Mine has a slight leak on the pipe which runs up the inside of the offside rear wheel arch at the pipe joint. That pipe then runs over the gearbox. I plan on replacing it when I pop the gearbox out later this year.

POST 3Original post

I had corrosion on the rear brake line that crosses the gearbox and read that a custom braided line used to be available but the company has since ceased trading. With this option you can thread the braided pipe over the gearbox and I found a local company that could manufacture one to suit. As it happens the split was readily accessible and could be repaired so I didn't need to follow this up but it might be worth considering if the damage is inaccessible.

POST 4Original post

Difficult to see what area of the car this is from. The bracket and the pipes in view look more like the ones visible behind the front driver side wheel.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Shows you have to keep using them

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so it was the expensive one, mind you none of the others looked particularly clever so they are all being replaced
