Auto Audio in Park Royal installed the sub for me, and they've also done dash and doors now.

Would probably give the stock Bose pack a run for its money
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've got door bins and no door speakers. I'm thinking to upgrade the sound in the car. Having only dash speakers and the two rears doesn't give many options.
I'd like to avoid swapping both door cards for ones with the factory speaker housings, as sourcing good quality ones in space grey will not be easy. So I'm hoping there's a way to nicely adapt what I already have.
Anyone have good suggestions?
You could upgrade the dash and rears, maybe add a powered sub under the dash (which I have done), then take stock and see if the sound was sufficient-
If not then it's new door card time.
My mate bought some OEM speakers and mounts that we mounted into the doors of his 996.2 GT3 many years ago. As well as installing what was the 'Sound Package Plus' amp of the time.
So I think you can retrofit their SP+ speaker mounts retaining your current doorcards.
Can always ask him for more info.
Thanks guys. I'm also talking to Sylwester at Enigma Audio to evaluate options. First I just wondered what other people have done, as many of these early 996's come without the optional door speakers, and for sure others have gone down this path many times before me.
Maybe the under dash sub is an option with top quality dash speakers, and I can get away without door mods.
I replaced mine with alpine speakers into the standard dash and rear seat positions.
Also just added a Pioneer 'underseat' sub behind the rear seats and the sound is epic! Would probably give the stock Bose pack a run for its money
Thanks for the links. I am considering going the sub route but seems there's nowhere to hide it. Looks like most people install sub in rear passenger footwell or even under the front passenger dash. Either way they will be in the way of passengers (I also have people in back of mine sometimes), and I prefer to have audio hidden away.
Hence I was wondering if I could retro fit some door speakers to give a bit more in lower range. The current sound with dash/rear Alpine speakers fitted by previous owner isn't bad, and can probably be improved with new upgraded head unit. But is missing something to my ears.
I found Jehnert do some housings that were actually part of a super rare Porsche High Performance Audio System option, and house two speakers per door. Can buy these without speakers, but won't be cheap option with all extra work required to fit & install in door without speakers currently.

Not sure if anyone has thought about these or if two speakers per door like this will give significant benefits? Or if there's any other door speaker retrofit options?
Passengers don't know that my sub is there (under their side of the dash) unless I tell them.
You can see if in this picture, we trimmed the upper edge in leather to blend it in.
Thanks dammit, did Precision do the install? (I also use them a lot)
Ideally I'd still rather have a door install if gives required low-range benefits for front passengers, even if it costs more than a sub install. I'm not looking for booming bass (those days are well gone for me!), but just decent base to balance the top from the dash speakers.
Auto Audio in Park Royal installed the sub for me, and they've also done dash and doors now.
What I wanted was the richest and clearest sound I could get (bearing in mind it's a cab), so went for the sub to get the lower frequency stuff.
I think, really, that for what you want finding some door cards that have speaker grills and the accompanying resonance chambers is the best course of action.
