Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
Backing off the PSM settings is also nice but that depends on the track/course as to whether you might choose to run with PSM off or PSM in sport mode.
Leading evidence: 'Run with psm off or psm in sport mode' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run with psm off or psm in sport mode' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
To add: With the 'Sport' setting, the PSM program is also modified to engage closer to limits, which will be critical for people that like to autocross or track, IMHO.

It does give you an extra 200 RPM or so, sets PSM limits higher for track use, willput PASMin sport modewhen engaged (if ordered), and interfaces with PCM (if ordered).
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You also don't get the 'sport' button at the bottom of the center stack. No other option takes its place, you just don't get sport mode, the lap timer, the raise in the rev limiter or the tie-in to the PCM display if you don't order Sport Chrono.
To add: With the 'Sport' setting, the PSM program is also modified to engage closer to limits, which will be critical for people that like to autocross or track, IMHO.
Wes,
I didn't order the
Sports Chrono Package
, but that was because I didn't know what it was. Too late now, but if I had it to do again I would have taken it!.
Aloha Russ
Here's a question about it. If your not going to track the car and never have a real use for the timer (unless u race it to work or something). And your
cayman
is going to be a manual.
Performance wise does the Sports Chrono Package or the plus increase anything in the car at all?
I could see where the rev limiter in the Tiptronic might be of use if its raised. Does it do anything else besides raise the rev limiter performance wise?
No.........Sports Chrono does not 'add' anything to the HP or straight line performance numbers of the Cayman. It does give you an extra 200 RPM or so, sets PSM limits higher for track use, willput PASMin sport modewhen engaged (if ordered), and interfaces with PCM (if ordered).
As always the best thing to do is go drive a Boxster with and without it........then decide. I foundother options that were worth more to me. The Cayman Swon't'need' any option to be fantastic though.
A recent post at rennsport compared the gearing of the
Boxster
,
Cayman
and Carrera. If the
Boxster S
and
Cayman
were geared the same as the Carrera, both would out do the Carrera and S to 60 MPH. In addition to detuning, Porsche has geared these three cars to position them in the pricing hierarchy so that 0-60 match up with the marketing approach.
Yes, having driving a car in both autocross and road course settings with sport chrono I am in favor of it. For heel-toeing I like the throttle response better, it is sharper, more defined and better tuned to my driving input. Does this make my car faster? Yes if you believe the lap times I turned with the car in sport mode vs. non sport mode (sport mode consistently faster but with some overlap - likely due to driver error). Raising the rev limiter is also good on a 6 speed car as it allows me to stay in some gears a little longer and depending on where I am on the track could make all the difference in terms of whether i have to shift or not or can squeeze a few more mph out of the car before getting the brakes again. This also allows me to stay in a higher rev range after shifting which means more available horsepower, which means faster lap times if I apply this correctly. Backing off the PSM settings is also nice but that depends on the track/course as to whether you might choose to run with PSM off or PSM in sport mode. I found PSM in sport mode to be less intrusive than standard PSM settings allowing me to throttle steer the car in situations where I was otherwise unable to do so because standard settings thought I was too far out of bounds but sport settings did not.
Will it make much difference on the street? nope. On the track I would suggest that it is a 'must have' option for anyone who plans to push their Cayman to the limits.
The lastest Excellence article posted here says that if you have
PCCB
that Sport Chrono is nice, because without it the brake and gas feel too different. They say
PCCB
is grabby and the more sensitive throttle seems to match up better...
...
I have sport chrono pack plus on my 2006 Carrera S and its totally worth it! The throttle response and sport suspension in combination make the car a completely different (and wild) animal. I reserve the 'sport' mode for aggressive driving usually when I'm out and about and having fun (no passengers because they'll get scared). The subjective feeling of the sport mode makes the car feel eager and hungry for speed, with a little harsher ride.
This will probably enhance the
cayman
experience.
Can someone clarify something for me please. Does the PASM option leave the car lowered by 10mm at all times (ie in both sport and normal settings) or does it physically raise and lower the ride height each time you switch between sport and normal?
Thanks
PASM does not move the suspension up and down.......leaves it lowered by 10mm all the time.
FYI.........Sport Chrono alone does nothing with the suspension.........if the car has PASM pressing the sport mode puts PASM in sport mode also.
