$58k for a 300hp car is probably ok. However everytime I add up the optons the car costs $82+k.
What did yours cost, MSRP to eliminate a comparision of negotiating skills, connections, and wallet size.

Mine is nicely optioned and came out right at $ 70,000.
Damn, what are your options? Mine is pretty much loaded- Full Leather, PASM, PCCB, 19s, Chrono, Seats, Bose, Xenons and more.... and it only comes to $79k....
It's hard to complain about the price if you ask for all the above plus color to sample, carbon interior, adaptive seats, nav.... blah, blah, blah.
The Cayman S is good without any options. Resist the temptation to load up on the very pricey options, many of which we would like available as standard equipment, and you have a very competitively priced pure performance sports car. Part of the problem is the US dollar/Euro conversion rate and the fact that Porsche can sell all of the cars it build these days and that it makes a tidy profit on each and every unit. Part of what you are getting when you purchase a Cayman is a guarantee that Porsche engineers will be able to work on the next great sports car, or in the present situation, the next great luxury sports sedan.

David, It seems like you think HP=Value. It doesn't... Not to say that I'm not disappointed that Porsche didn't make all the HP it could just to protect the 911, because I am. But it's the coolest car available, good value or not. You should consider a new Z06, at $65k it wins the value race. And the real race at the track!
An Audi designer recently talked about commodity luxury:
According to Audi, commodity luxury is practiced by Japanese automakers. Infiniti, Lexus and Acura build great cars in great quantities and load them with gadgets, dress them in leather and sound-deadening materials, and sell them for a discount compared to European rivals. Porsche has not yet had to compete with commodity luxury because it makes the world's best sports cars. Sports Sedan purists have seen BMW move in the direction of commodity luxury and bemoaned the effects this trend has had on the 3 and 5 series sports sedans.
Porsche is still able to play by the old European Car manufacturers rules of luxury. So, if you want the luxury features in one of the world's best sports cars you will pay. There are plenty of sporty luxury cars out there priced to be competitive with the Japanese and Korean cars. These cars have every imaginable bell and whistle, not to mention gadgets that will be obsolete in two years when new electronic gadgets come along.

Actually, the Z06 is a little over $70k with options, nearly the same as a similarly equiped Cayman. And yes, that is where I am cross shopping. Also an M3.

Holy (*&^! Your problem is self-inflicted! And I find it really strange one would load a "pure" sports car with all possible luxury options and no performance options... Strange that you're considering this car at all with those options. Have you heard of Mercedes?
Some stuff, the package stuff, auto climate control, xenon lights, should have been standard. Ditto the sport shifter and the smaller, thicker wheel.
If you've ever had a nav system, you wouldn't want to be without it. Especially when driving the kind of unfamiliar back roads the Cayman beckons you with.
Ok, I like leather interiors. And the natural leather is just a much higher quality. Similar the the heritage interior leather in the E39 M5. This accounts for a little over $5k. there are people who have added $12-20k in aftermarket parts to apply the same treatment to a Corvette. This just feels nice in traffic and lets you see where you spent your money.
A rear wiper should be mandatory on every hatchback and wagon. Ditto park distance sensors. And phone integration. It is amazing with all the cell phone laws there isn't a government manadated cell phone interface in every car.

As many articles have stated......you really don'tNEED any options in order to fully enjoy this car.....it's that good. Get a few of the ones you want, be reasonable, and enjoy. Save the extra $10K-$15K for something else IMO.

They should have a 'Total Weight' displayed when you build the car. That way you can see the double whammy of Price and Weight increasing as you splurge on the options.
But seriously, I'd love to know the incremental weights of the most common options. It would help me decide which ones are really worth it.

Mine is $78,430 including destination. Not a lot of bits and pieces, just costly options like PASM, 19's, Adaptives, PCM w/phone, full leather Cocoa, bi-xenons, sport shift and sport chrono plus.

The seats are probably 20-30#, the rest 1-2# each, if anything.
71K for Cararra white and black full leather, sport seats, some interior trim in exterior color, sport chrono. I skipped the litronics, Bose, NAV, auto climate control, 19" wheels, PASM. Personally I think you can do what you want and can afford. If it seems like too much money then it probably is, and you should rethink what you're looking for in the car, which is true for any car, not just the Cayman. You can spec out a $115K 997S PDQ. The conventional wisdom that a customer who wants a loaded Cayman will then opt out for a base 997 is bogus. A full leather interior in a Cayman is a lot nicer than the base interior in the standard 997, so if it makes difference to you in the Cayman it sure as hell will in the 997. FWIW if I read your sticker right I believe you have some conflicting options (802/803) and the Preferred package/Bose.
Neither 802 nor 803 should have been there. And the CVW should have been the sun visors for $100 more. I hate looking at vinyl sun visors. If they used nice soft plastics and you could get a nice fabric or Alcantara, that would be ok. However, hardplastics and vinyl don't make it into my house's living room nor my car's.
Mine is now at $ 66,500 with destination charge. Would have been more, but my full leather was rejected, too late to make changes.

Well so far I am the winner and I am coming in just under 64,000. I got the bare essentials for this car, sport steering wheel, sports chrono, I tried to get the sport shifter but it was too late since my car was a nov. 2nd build. I did add the 19 inchers and upgraded stereo, but that is all. Oh no wait, I forgot, the floor mats.

We are not too far apart, my paint was the biggy and then I got the 19' wheels, Bose Surround, Floor mats, Sport wheel, Crested caps and headrest. I think that was about it.

DavidNJ, I think some of the options must be more than 1 or 2 pounds.
According to the user manual, empty weight for the Cayman S manual transmission is from 2954 lbs to 3153 lbs depending on equipement. At 3153 lbs, it would be like having to lug an extra passenger all the time! I want to keep as much nimbleness as possible from this car as it is one of the main reasons I am buying it.
I really wish we knew the weights of individual options. Some options might even save weights. Maybe the sports seats are lighter than the stock ones?

I felt the same way when I saw some guys hitting above 70+, but we all want different things from our cars and some things that are important to me another guy would not pay to have, like over 3K for special paint. I had 2 things that were important to me, and they were both more or less cosmetic, paint and wheels!
We are all fortunate to have a Cayman no matter what add ons we got!! Most of the articles I read said that this vehicle is just fine with nothing added above the standard features!
