Just received this while driving home P0456 CEL - Evap Emission System Leak Detected(very small leak). 08
Cayman
base with 42K miles.
Suncoast
list this part- Leak Detection Module SKU: 95860510700 $315. Anyone else encounter this issue? Will be taking it to my indy shop later this week. thanks
By any chance did you put gas in the tank prior to getting the error code? May be a loose gas
cap
.
If tightening the
cap
doesn't clear this, I'd try greasing the
cap
seal with some silicone grease to see if the gasket is leaking. If that stops the error message chances are you need a new
cap
(way cheaper than having a shop deal with it.)
no I didn’t fill up but I did try opening and re-tightening the gas
cap
several times. Thanks
let me try silicone grease, it can be a cheap fix considering the gas
cap
is 14 years old. Thanks for the suggestion.
If it's like my car was you're going to have to clear a code to know whether the gas
cap
repairs are legitimate, just tightening after it "coded" wasn't enough on my 2011.
I had this issue on both my previous
Boxster
and then on my
Cayman
. The leak detection pump went out fowling the charcoal canister. It is mainly caused ( I later found out) by topping off your tank according to my mech. The repair was $650. at my Indy. The
Porsche
dealer wanted $1200!!!!
I've always heard that topping off fuel on a modern car can do this kind of stuff... thanks for telling us about the specifics, as it's a great story to tell. Admitting you made a mistake shows great character as well! Kudos!
Just close the loop, it was a defective gas
cap
that needed replacement. The rubber seals was cracked. Thanks y’all
This thread saved me a trip to the stealership. Greased the inside of the
cap
. Used an old Bluetooth
obd
scanner and cleared the code with my phone. All better, thanks guys!
You might consider investing in a new
cap
sometime. The grease may work forever, or it might work for a day or two. A new
cap
solves the issue, and in the grand scheme of
Porsche
ownership - isn't very expensive. Even
Porsche
dealers will be giving you change back out of a $20 bill..
Absolutely, I don’t mind buying a new
cap
. Just thrilled to figure out that was the issue. Probably just wasn’t fully secured to begin with, certainly no harm in replacing a 13 year old gas
cap
. Last week it threw every code I had ever seen, I was overjoyed to spend $250 on a new
battery
. Also this thread convinced me not to “top off” my vehicles.
