Suggestion

Since it seems to have originated with the use of the handbrake, I would pull the rotor and check the condition of the brake shoe and the associated hardware.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Evening all, I asked my missus to back up my 987 whilst I parked up my Range Rover. She did that for me, but she didn’t take off the handbrake. Now I think I have a stuck caliper because of the noise it makes when I move it. Do you have any tips for me on how to rectify this issue? BTW I won’t be asking her to move it again 😭

POST 2Original post

The handbrake is a drum setup so no damage was done to your calipers. Perhaps try adjusting them first.

POST 4Original post

Hey mate, sorry to hear about the trouble. I'm not super familiar with 987s, but could it be something simpler like brake pad deposits? Might be worth checking that out before diving into more complex fixes.

POST 6Original post

Since it seems to have originated with the use of the handbrake, I would pull the rotor and check the condition of the brake shoe and the associated hardware. I have seen instances where the surface of the brake shoe has deteriorated or cracked over time and begun to lose small pieces, which could be trapped inside the rotor and creating the noise you hear. Also, it may be a piece of the related hardware of the parking brake system, such as a spring or clip which has become loose or dislodged and caught in that space. Pulling the rotor and examining the setup should reveal the cause. If you can lift the rear, hand spin each wheel to determine which side is causing the sound. Removing both wheels and rotors and comparing each side to the other to see if there are any obvious visual differences in the appearance should also be a good starting point. Keep us posted.

POST 7Original post

@CarsOfZeus , did you recently update your rear wheel lugs? If lugs on rear wheels are too long they can hit the parking brake hardware and knock the spring off.
