Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Trying to remove the panel under the steering column. Per the manual, there's 7 screws to remove. Though I note the picture showing the screws is a 997. Where the F#$K are the others? How do I get this bloody panel off? Julian

POST 2Original post

I've never removed it, but thought I'd suggest removing that carpet-wrapped piece near the fuse-box. IIRC, I've had that off. Some screws holding it are visible with the fuse cover off. Then just pull the whole carpeted piece off. I suspect it is hiding one or more of the screws you are seeking,

POST 3Original post

It freely moves from the bottom edge with those screws already removed, I believe it's some more screws at the top that are hidden from me

POST 4Original post

Woot! Finally got it off last night!! You need to remove the side of the center console (2 x T20 at the back end near the red circle) which you then pull forward out of the clips. That exposes 2 more of the T20 torx for the under dash panel. Take out the light switch (push in, turn counterclockwise and pull, it comes out easy) which exposes another T20, we're now up to 6 out of 7 T20 removed. The last one is hiding up in the top left of the opening for the steering column, you need to push aside the vinyl between the steering column cover and the dash and will need a screwdriver style skinny T20 to reach down the gap. So that has now enabled me to get to the top (main) bolt that holds the Steering column (and one other smaller one that retains a radius rod) but now I need to get to the remaining bolt which retains the steering column. That is actually a thru bolt that acts as the pivot rod for both brake and clutch pedals...fark....All this so I can swap out my steering column lock module....WOW.

POST 5Original post

Thanks for that, I'm sure this will be helpful to others in the future!

POST 6Original post

Indeed! I wanted that dang thing out of my way while I recently replaced both brake/clutch switches. Not because I couldn't access the switches themselves, but because my 63 old carcass can't do the necessary contortions to get down in the footwell upside down. Actually my biggest issue was eyesight. I wanted to be FARTHER from the switch-gear so I could focus. Instead my face was so close that I couldn't see. I'm thinking that panel being removed would let me SEE what I was doing while backing away a bit? Anyways, yes, thanks for documenting this procedure! Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 7Original post

Thank you for your post and detailed descriptions + photos. There is nowhere else info on 987 driver panel removal. This was extremely helpful.

POST 8Original post

Nice work, it actually helped me a lot, there is just one tiny mistake, the headlight switch needs to be pushed in and turned clockwise to take out. I had one helluva a time till I figured it out.

POST 10Original post

This just helped me with my replacement. Thanks for your time, efforts, and the detailed diagram @Apexhunter987 !! To remove the steering column Torx screw, I first used a borescope camera (lol) I accidentally discovered that the steering wheel column vinyl cover pops off, backwards, with a little bit of force from a prying tool. That made re-installation, using a long, magnetic hex shank extension and firmly held torx screw (since it's at angle downwards), almost easy.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
