I took car to local INDEPENDANT PORSCHE garage who did tests they topped up fluid, replaced rear latch mechanism, swapped roof control module with another and durametric tested all sensors which all seemed ok.

I took car to local INDEPENDANT PORSCHE garage who did tests they topped up fluid, replaced rear latch mechanism, swapped roof control module with another and durametric tested all sensors which all seemed ok. some times it would work then when putting roof up would freeze around the service position about 8 inches from window screen. if car is left a couple of hrs it would work and close. which made me too scared to use it. ive spent a lot of money and roof still dont work, it is stuck closed, nothing moves at all now. can you help??? can you even do the works required. its depressing me as car is worthless in currant state !!! __________________ hi thanks for the reply. as for symptoms, when the roof stopped 8 inches from window screen the hook was out i think. the motor does not sound noisy at all. there was one thing, the last time it worked whilst putting the roof down the front latch mechanism made a loud bang as if it was stuck in the wind screen. i took it off and had a look but nothing jumped out to me as if it was broke. cheers. __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here:

Ahhhhh very good information! Chances are something is bent, or has gotten out of calibration due to the front latch hanging up. Check all the arms fasteners make sure they are tight. I have found some cars that the pivots for the arms in the rear get loose and the top doesn't work right. I bet you'll find something loose or a fastener missing. - Casey

ok, so today i replaced the convertible front latch mechanism but again no luck on getting this roof working. work done so far (1998 996 carrera2 cabrio. tip): 1, topped up roof fluid- by porsche mechanic. 2, replaced rear latch mechanism- by porsche mechanic. 3, car was put on durametric computer he said boot, handbrake all ok. 4, he took a roof ecu from a working car and tried on mine- porsche mechanic. 5, he spent half day testing and said cant find a problem and stopped answering my calls for further roof works. 8 months later, out the blue roof worked for 2 days then got stuck again 8 inches from front windshield, after leaving the car for 2 hrs the roof closed. roof no longer opens, just the windows go down. 6, today replaced the front latch mechanism- by myself. now back to original problem...... pressing roof down button or using key, all windows come down but nothing else moves, AT ALL !!! sound of a relay clicking from rear inside the car. tried wiggling flaps whilst pressing roof down button. nothing. i live in essex nr london england i so need help, spent lots of money and time and hate the fact i cant use my car as it should be. PLEASE HELP! thanks.

Well the good news is that I know the top pretty good. First question is are your cylinders leaking. Look at them. Look at the rod that goes in and out. 2nd. Do you know how to open and close the top manually? It takes two allen keys and removal of the rear panel/seats.
