Maybe I'll just wing it and take it to ATS, I was a little shaken by a couple quotes from the specialists over £400 which seems a lot to adjust a few bolts in line with what the screen tells you, worst case it's not up to spec and i'll realise why the high prices some are charging are worth it.

Such as torn and black mastic'd back together door liners on my car by a specialist while replacing the door handle for the previous owner, took me a few days to scrape all the black rubber off the paint properly and fit a new liner for all for the sake of £30 from the OPC.

I'm reluctant to take it to CofG and be charged £350 because I hopefully when budget allows want to change the shocks and top mounts but I was hoping for a better result.

It took a few days to really test the car out with a spirited and although the car obviously felt tighter and more responsive it didn't seem to corner as well (sort of under steer) and I noticed the wheel wasn't straight and car drifted to the left on straight roads.

I haven't had chance to repeat test drive but it certainly felt straighter and drifting to the left has disappeared.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Also surprised at no torque wrench being used on any of the bolts adjusted....maybe if you do it everyday you just have a feel for how tight it should be.

I believe RPM Technik nr Aylesbury might be a possible alternative for a full geo check/alignment as they do corner weighting like Center Gravity....a good friend of mine used RPM once as there was a long lead time with Center Gravity & he's very particular about who he let's set up his cars.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I've just about got all part for my C4S suspension refresh.
Bilstein B4's
OEM USA spec C4S springs (for a little extra bit of height and comfort)
new bump-stops and boots
TRW Tie rods (inner and outer)
OEM anti-rollbar bushings
new nuts and bolts for all bits coming off
just waiting to order
Hartech Coffin arms x4
Hartech rear tie arm x2
Can anyone reccomend a good places for a full geometry since just about everything adjustable on the suspension is being replaced? I'm based in Newbury, Berkshire, somewhere local would be preferable to minimise time driving a car that will essentially have everything about where it was last.
Heard many good things about Centre Gravity though is about 2 hours away, also saw someone mention they got just as good service from PRS at half the cost (though I couldn't work out who PRS are).
Just looking for a good alignment where they are going to take the time to get the car as close to spec as they can rather than just about within tolerance and looking for a standard factory alignment, nothing special to account driving style or anything bespoke like that.
thanks

Project Nine in Marden, Kent have done mine on each 911 I've had.
This is my review from the first time.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I still find it crazy how with all the places that do alignments and have the latest equipment that it's so hard to find decent places that are known to do the job properly. Looks like either way I'm looking to go a little distance to get it done.
I'm sure that a lot of places with the right equipment do an excellent job in the same way I'm sure that a lot of ordinary garages would do a brilliant job servicing a 911.
The 'Porsche Specialists' rely on us Porsche owners feeing that our cars are something extraordinary - which of course, they are.
good point, In all honesty I don't even trust the "specialists" all that much, already had to correct a few out of sight bits broken due to carelessness and bodged. Such as torn and black mastic'd back together door liners on my car by a specialist while replacing the door handle for the previous owner, took me a few days to scrape all the black rubber off the paint properly and fit a new liner for all for the sake of £30 from the OPC.
So I figure the only person I trust to do the job right is myself and a handful of places highly regard on this forum for jobs I don't have equipment for i.e. alignments, paint work ect

I completely refreshed all the arms and bushings, drop links and tie rods on my C2 recently.
Obviously it needed complete alignment etc so I took it to a local alignment centre that handles lots of M3's etc. They were reluctant to take on the job but one of the mechanics pointed out the eccentric bolts were exactly like on Golf GTI's and they could actually do the work.
Driving the car there it was crabbing along and the steering wheel was way off centre so I was glad it was only a mile away. It was placed on the machine once the cars details were inputted they started work and managed to get the car into the green on all the settings. I was surprised they wouldn't touch the top mount settings on the front and couldn't really understand the reasons why. Also surprised at no torque wrench being used on any of the bolts adjusted....maybe if you do it everyday you just have a feel for how tight it should be.
Overall I was happy driving away and it was loads better than before. It took a few days to really test the car out with a spirited and although the car obviously felt tighter and more responsive it didn't seem to corner as well (sort of under steer) and I noticed the wheel wasn't straight and car drifted to the left on straight roads.
So took car back and they placed all the measuring gear on again and told me one side was 2mm out probably due to new bushes settling in.
I haven't had chance to repeat test drive but it certainly felt straighter and drifting to the left has disappeared.
So what do I think of taking to your average local alignment centre...ehmm to be honest I'm a bit underwhelmed maybe you do need to take it to an expert with Porsche's.
I'm reluctant to take it to CofG and be charged £350 because I hopefully when budget allows want to change the shocks and top mounts but I was hoping for a better result. So if anyone knows a place close to LONDON that they trust to do the job and set up the car as per factory I would love to hear from you.
Take it to Center Gravity in the Midlands. They are the best for Porsche. I hear they are the goto place for the usual specialists that are on here for difficult jobs.... Enough said

Just had mine done again. Absolutely superb, £132 full alignment to X74 spec. Very professional and I was allowed to be there with the tech during the process. They have loads of interesting motorsport cars including 1400hp dragsters. You'll also get a cup of tea.
They do everything and are my now go to workshop.
I got mine done at Tognola Engineering near Windsor. Very reasonable price and knowledgeable guy. My previous 996 had been setup by him before I bought the car and drove brilliantly so thought it worth going back and wasn't disappointed. Substantially cheaper than CG too.

Maidenhead Tyres & Autocare did a decent, no fuss job on my car - they have the Hunter wheel alignment kit and I'm sure if you have any specific requirements they'll set up the suspension as you want.
