Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Thought of some others - front temp sensor in LHS lower bumper was detached (easy to catch when washing it) and replaced wood screws in arch liner with OEM Torx screws (I found VW/Audi fixings were identical)

Purchased a Durametric and have been checking cams etc and generally playing around with that.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, I've owned the 996 two months now and have been sorting a few little jobs. Not an incredibly exciting post but heck as its a 996 forum....
1. Replaced silencers with Top Gear sports items
2. Plugs changed and checked coils - all good - one iridium tipped plug was missing it's tip.
3. Performed a compression test, good across all 6 cylinders.
4. Purchased a Durametric and have been checking cams etc and generally playing around with that. Lots to learn!
5. Aircon pipe leak next to rear drivers jacking point, that's the long pipe that goes up into the drivers front wheel arch, behind the evap canister and fuel filler neck and up into the scuttle area. That pipe is off and showed aluminium corrosion around the o ring. New pipe ready to go back on and obviously new o rings.
6. Replacing desiccator
7. Wiper motor off and heater matrix out, this was leaking like a sieve. The front screen became instantly misty and greasy when using the interior blower. I hate the smell of coolant. New matrix being ordered
8. Nice and easy - cabin filter needed changing
General clean up as things are coming off and going back on. Really enjoying it, nice car to work on, everything nice and logical.
When I got mine there was lots if silly, simple stuff that had been left - washer jet joint in bulkhead had come apart, engine compartment fan sensor was dangling in free air, fuel cap locking pin was inside the wing, engine lid fan relay had fallen out, battery vent loose - the list goes on!
Desslcator - whats that?
I think it's know as a dryer. The canister under the front scuttle that removes moisture from the aircon system.
I reckon nailing those little things keep a car from falling into a neglected state. :thumb:
I agree - everything working as it should. My CD changer lid needed attention (like yours)
Also, ash tray lid mechanism needed fixing. I'm sure there are more I've forgotten!
Does give a sense of satisfaction making sure everything works.

Nice spot Ian! I didn't know the CD changer was missing something. I looked at it earlier and thought 'weird that the metal is on display like that' at which point I forgot about it.
Another one for the list! And agreed, very satisfying working through the issues.
On my CD changer the two part sliding lid had come apart and just needed re-joining. It will be in there rather than lost!

Don't pay over odds for your heater matrix. I got a German manufacture one the other month brand new for under £50. Some of the prices I've seen, even for second hand ones are eye watering.
