Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

am havin the wheels balanced and tracking checked on thursday!!!
Leading evidence: 'Check on thursday' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'front toe being unequal (aka cross-toe not being zero)' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check on thursday' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
If the wheel balance is OK, IME the most likely cause is the front toe being unequal (AKA cross-toe not being zero).

Just a quickie regarding tyre pressures, bit confused, the recommended pressures for the 996 with 18" wheels is 36 front 44 rear, this seems very high!!

After a year & a half ownership of my old C4 & a fair bit of experimenting, I found 34f 42r to be optimum on standard geometry & running Michelin PS2's
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Everyone,
Just a quickie regarding tyre pressures, bit confused, the recommended pressures for the 996 with 18" wheels is 36 front 44 rear, this seems very high!!
What have others found to be the best pressure, day to day driving!!
i have been keeping it 36 front 37-38 rear, but someone told me this was wrong....what you we think??
thanks
steve
Hi
Just got a c4 with 18" wheels from Hartech. on this point they recommend Front 32 and rear 36. They commented that this a bit lower than Porsche recommended but the lower pressure gives better wear
hope this helps

tyre pressures
thanks guys, very helpful, to be honest i think im gonna keep them at the pressures i had them at, only since i have messed with them does the car feel different!!!!!
its probably a tracking thing, but over 100mph (not that i do that very often Mr Officer!!) the car seemed to shake from the front end, am getting the tracking and balancing checked this week, shouldnt do that really should it?? :?
ta guys
steve
No, it shouldn't shake at the front end. If the wheel balance is OK, IME the most likely cause is the front toe being unequal (AKA cross-toe not being zero). It only takes a few minutes of arc to show this up at speed.
Hi in the follwoing order.
Ensure even tyre pressures i run 32F and 38R on my C2 (make sure you are measuring this with a proper guage not the pressure guage at the petrol station.
Wheel Balance
Geometry re alignment (this will cost about £160)

I am not running them at the recommended tyre pressures (dunno what they are actually
) but when I was, the ride was rock hard and very uncomfortable.
~ Maxie
I run mine 2 psi under on ps2's for a softer ride as it is my daily drive,
150miles per day. but I do check the pressures every week or two.
I found the normal pressures were too hard for daily use as Maxie said.
