Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

A problem seems to be starting that is getting worse each time I have used the car for the last 6 times.
I wondered if this could be battery related due to lack of use and the cold weather but when I have used the car, it has always started normally with no apparent issues.

It had a 100 mile run on Saturday so I would hope that the battery would be in reasonable health and it's only a couple of years old.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just wondered if anyone could shed any light (!) on this potential problem with my car.
I haven't used the car much over Christmas due to the weather but when I have used it, it has not been for short journeys. A problem seems to be starting that is getting worse each time I have used the car for the last 6 times.
When I turn on the lights, the dashboard backlights and switch backlights don't come on straight away ( all of them apart from aircon display). Initially the delay was very brief but it seems to be taking longer each time now to the point where I have started counting! As I left work yesterday it took 7 seconds for the lights to come on and as I left our club meeting last night it took over 10! Once the lights come on they are fine with no flickering or anything.

Thanks in anticipation.
Becoming quite a common problem on the 996. First suspect is the ignition switch. You can buy just the switch part - it's a VW part - (no need to get the keys re-coded) and change it yourself fairly easily. There's a really good HOWTO
