I fitted the new wheels/tyres today and it now has a bad judder when braking. I jetwashed the rust of the disks and it has made no difference.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, Can anyone help me? I hit my front right wheel in the ice and took a small dink out of the alloy. I had it refurbished, fitted brand new tyres all round and had the wheels balanced. It was left for 3 weeks on blocks and rust built up on the disks. I fitted the new wheels/tyres today and it now has a bad judder when braking. I jetwashed the rust of the disks and it has made no difference. The steering is also facing 2 oclock so the tracking does need adjusting. Does anyone know the tracking settings for the 996 turbo and has anyone got any thoughts on my problem. It was braking fine before this happened... Would the tracking cause the steering to vibrate like this? Please help Best Regards Simon

POST 2Original post

I wouldn't think the alignment would cause a judder under braking, but as it is obviously out by a mile it's a good starting point. Alignment values attached.

POST 3Original post

Sounds more serious to me, I'd have your steering checked as you could have a bent track rod or broken steering component. :bandit:

POST 4Original post

A damaged bush would though. After any hard suspension impact it's just common sense to get it all checked out for damage.

POST 5Original post

Agreed with commment above. For your steering wheel to shift several degrees from normal position it's something serious. I would take things very very easy until you get things properly checked out. Ray :hand:

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

many thanks all. Its booked in at OPC(ouch££) but safety first right.... Regards Simon

POST 7Original post

That's what I meant, but didn't say it. Hopefully anyone decent doing an alignment would pick up on that if they were told it had a bump.
