Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Because I dont want to try pulling panels and wiring a system I have considered a wifi cam (Ild like to hear recommendations) that just sends backup cam pics to my phone, which I use for Pandora anyway.
Leading evidence: 'Use pandora anyway' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run wire' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I haven't installed my backup camera yet because I was dreading removing the bumper, but I finally broke down yesterday and took the task on. To my surprise, you don't have to! The socket that you
plug
the lens/bulb into for the license plate lights comes out. You take out the lens/bulb (held on by 2 screws), then you just pop-out the plastic socket/connector that holds the lens/bulb. Then, all you have to do is remove 1 tail light (held on by 3 9mm hex bolts) Then you fish a wire-hanger (with camera lead on one end) through the bulb opening and out whichever tail-light you removed. After that...I had all the wires ready for me in the rear-left tail-light area, so it was just
plug
and play from there! 15 minutes!! (approx) :drivingskid:
*Plus...you don't have to drill any holes in your bumper if you do it this way. (unless you drill your camera into your bumper)

Porsche
PCM

Yup! And if I may add....it works GREAT! If I switch to the camera view while driving, I get a wide angle shot of what's behind me. Better shot than the rear-view mirror with NO blindspots! (if you can imagine) By the time I see the rear of the car that's
next
to me on the screen, I've already spotted him through my side window! Amazing! A little fish-bowl effect, but otherwise the best back-up camera I've seen in action (
Pioneer
). Even in direct sunlight, you get a PERFECT view of what's behind you (just a single vertical narrow line).
*I would go as far to say that you can actually see when you normally wouldn't be able to! Meaning, in the brightest situation (where one wouldn't be able to open their eyes due to such brightness), the camera will still give you a GREAT picture.
TresX you may want to remind people that you have a custom navigation system in your car NOT the Porsche PCM system, although PCM does have a backup camera tie-in in the Cayenne, not sure how it would work to do that for the Cayman.
So, if I understand the current situation, the challenge appears to be to get someone to devote the resources necessary to determine how to integrate a CCD camera with our PCMs and then post a bunch of photos so the rest of us can do it. Eagerly awaiting results.
Browsing the Schnell website today I see they have a backup camera kit available for the
Cayman
, appears to be OEM, so I'm wondering if this is mostly just
plug
'n play if you have
PCM
? Lemon, can you comment on this for us? Might be a worthwhile addition if its simply plugging into the rear of the
PCM
and running a wire to the license plate area for the camera.
I have a 2016
GT4
no backup cam. Because I dont want to try pulling panels and wiring a system I have considered a wifi cam (Ild like to hear recommendations) that just sends backup cam pics to my phone, which I use for Pandora anyway.
But if my
981
GT4
is prewired...??? can you elaborate on that please.
but it does hav
PCM
so what is that about?
thx
Tony
There's a soft bit of weatherstripping foam where the lens assembly contacts the car body. The foam was thicker than the cable on the camera I installed, so it has a chance to seal decently well. I made sure to install the cable where it enters the car on the underside of the taillight. Also make sure the highest point of the cable is at the taillight, so drips don't have an opportunity to run down the cable and into the car.
