Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Keen to try out my newly fitted 3 spoke wheel.Took the 996 out today to do my weekly 250 mile round trip to drop the kids off. To be honest wasnt too sure on the way down, it was a bit wearing on the state of the uk's A roads, feeling every bump, made me think I should have taken the daily merc. Anyway on the way home, it was getting dark, wound the stereo up and alone in the car started to get in the flow and remember why I bought it, Joining the A46 heard a bike ahead and slowed down for a roundabout and saw the source of the noise, an 06 lambo. Between me and it the bane of my life a golf tdi. My major hate are drivers of golf/passat/A4 TDI owners who think they have the fastest cars on the roads and never pull over, not realising the 996 behind them is feathering the throttle to avoid ramming them as they accelerate off thinking they are leaving everyone in their wake. Anyway after some time the golf pulled over suprised someone was still behind them and trying to get past. I caught the lambo at the next roundabout and held it in 2nd and then redlined it through the gears as the lambo pulled away with a sound I have never heard on a road, it was like a racebike, at the next roundabout it crackled as it changed down and again I chased it from 40 upwards, took off like a rocket and I sensed the difference of 600 bhp vs 300 bhp. not a chance. absolutely demolished me  If you imagine a 996TT pulling away from a 1.4 clio, you get the idea...later on he turned off and I gave him a respectful wave as I joined the m69. What a drive, best I've had as I never see anything like that normally. Good to remind me why I like fast cars :worship:

POST 2Original post

Tim The Lambo might be faster but I would never change my 911 for anything. When I started looking for my next car I wanted something that is practical fast and reliable that I will be able to take the whole family around. The only super car that can do that is the 911. :judge: As for the lambo if you were driving for example the 911 Turbo then I am sure it was going to be a different story I believe!!!! One thing I would agree with you is the noise. Somehow the Italians make cars with a noise coming from a different planet (Would not say the same about reliability!!!!!) :floor:

POST 3Original post

Nice write-up, just the sort of reminder we all need as to why we own and drive what we spend so much of our hard earned cash on. However, if someone offered me the latest Gallardo, I would be very tempted :?:

POST 4Original post

Lambos are only good if you have one Porsche oh and give me that lambo at the red lights ... :bandit: I still going to get busted :cop: and hes going to win but let me have some fun as well eh

POST 5Original post

Nice write up, drives like that make all the negative parts of ownership fade away don't they. I always enjoy getting into a convoy with something Italian, they realise quite quickly that the GT2 isn't quite as easy to lose as they'd hoped

POST 6Original post

Great bit of reporting, but think on if you had had a GT3 it would have been a far more interesting comparison, and very embarrising for Mr Lambo . You did well. I have to agree about VW Golf GTI/Audi/Beemer drivers etc. I have a true story from down memory lane ld: , in the late 60's I went with a buddy to the Monaco Grad Prix in his much tweaked Mini Coopper S. He drove occasionally for Paddy Hopkirk, so he was brave, foolish, and fast. In the mountain roads above Monte Carlo we came up behind a 275 GTB Ferrari :worship: . Every time we came up behind him on the straights he left us behind, but on the bends we were all over him like a rash 8) ! My buddy had enough, he was one to be always looking ahead, and I mean far ahead (per IAM training by the way!), so suddenly he went round the Ferrari on a tight blind bend, and that was it, he started to pull away gradually as we continued to descend to Monte. He had been car counting down the mountainside, I had just been sh***ing myself, so when he went for it he knew there was nothing there! The happy ending was parked up later at a roadside bar, the Ferrari turns up and the Italian guy asked who owned the Mini, buddy admits it was him and what a nights drinking we had! I must admit the blokes wife uh: held my attention for a longwhile until the booze did its work :sleepy: . Regards Big Bob :bye:

POST 7Original post

I had a Gallardo for a weekend in Vegas as a birthday treat from my missus (good girl) The noise and drive was astonishing. I was lighting it up along the strip as much as I could to please the crowds and whenever I stopped people would ask me to rev it so that they could hear the engine. Over here you'd just get the normal jealous salutes that most ***** do when they see a nice car...

POST 8Original post

The most important question Marcus was the Lambo Yellow? Regards Big Bob

POST 9Original post

What was the Gallardo like to drive? I must admit it's about the only car that would tempt me out of a 911.
