Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I will be storing my 07 Cayman as soon as the snow flies. Could I plug a Battery Tender in to the cigarette lighter or is there something specific about the Porsche model listed in the owner's manual?

POST 2Original post

I would go straight for the battery terminals.

POST 3Original post

On a 2007, the cigarette lighter works just fine. Been using mine (2008) for the same reason for 10 years without a single issue.

POST 4Original post

06 CS MT. Used a Craftsman DieHard Platinum p/n 28.71239 smart charger via the cigarette plug provided and it worked fine thru last winter. No startup issues, no ensuing codes, battery strong all this season and that charger provided status info on what was happening. Maybe I was a tad lazy but did not have to dissemble the car to trickle her.

POST 5Original post

I used a Battery Tender (TM) for years but recently switched to a Ctek . My dealer told me to use the 12v port instead of direct to the battery. Not sure why but it works better that way anyway, as far as user friendly. IMO.

POST 6Original post

I use a Porsche "Charge-O-Mat" that I purchased on eBay years ago when I purchased my Cayman. Works great and it was inexpensive. Plugs into the lighter socket.

POST 7Original post

+1 for the cig lighter method. I have a 3 amp Battery Tender that I've had on it for a year, no problems at all.

POST 8Original post

I use an Oxford motorbike tender plugged in the cigar lighter socket in the foot well. Works well.
