From looking around, and a couple of long chats at the autosport show, and also talking to mike at sports&classic, then the milltek system seems to be quite well thought of and you can have supplied and fitted for £1995

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Gents (and ladies if there are any on here),
I purchsed a 996tt about 5 weeks ago and have fallen head over heels for her, perfect car in every way. However I fear that she craves for more of a growl. I have been doing some reaserch into new exhaust options for the 99tt and I think I have identified that there is only a single option....but just wanted to run it by all of you......i.e. there is only a single option of a complete new exhaust with race cats?
I believe this option is driven by the fact that the 996tt gets very upset if you run it without cats and as the cats are part of the exhaust then you are looking at a staggering £2000 price tag in order to get a growl that the car deserves??
So is there anyway i do not know of that you can get the growl at a less cost? Does anyone know of decat systems for the 996 and how the car reacts to them?
Or does anyone have any racing cat exhaust systems they wish to sell second hand??
Cheers.
I think you should think twice as any aftermarket exhaust or modifications to the existing exhaust on 996 tt invalidates the warranty and an OPC warranty is key on these cars.

The price of aftermarket TT exhausts is heinous even by the standards of 911 owners who will happily pay £600 for £3's worth of plastic painted silver and kid themselves it is a rare alloy produced only in stuttgart.
Whatever you do it will never sound like an NA I'm afraid and arguably nothing will make a flat six sound anything like as good as a V8, they simply smooth out to nothing unless you ditch the cats.
Spend the money on a map if you really want to up the smiles.
All my own opinion of course with no basis in scientific fact or allowing for self delusion
Zorsts are not cheap for the tt... especially if you want a tubi or europipe.... but there are other benefits bar noise, quicker turbo spool and better breathing..... maximises any map if you want to go that route.
My opc wtee expires in march and it will stay expired... there are other alternatives that use common sense and allow you to enhance/improve your car.
Thanks guys for the constructive comments, all greatly appreciated.
And ZeroH I agree with you regarding the warrenty, mine runs out in June and as my car is a 2000 reg, I could extend it for a further 10 months until she hits her 9th bday but at the new increased price of £1350 I really don't think it is worth it. Reading the new warrenty booklet "which offers soooo much more, hence the price increase" cough! I think I will take my chances.
I think you were right, Martynb, I am maybe looking for a noise that just can't be achieved by the sound muffling turbo turbines.
I'm in the same boat as you spoony. Got mine about 5 weeks ago , and it is the ultimate driving machine..no doubt.
My problem, like you, is the sound...or the lack of it to be precise!
From looking around, and a couple of long chats at the autosport show, and also talking to mike at sports&classic, then the milltek system seems to be quite well thought of and you can have supplied and fitted for £1995
thats where i'm going by the looks of things
HTH
You can definitely improve the sounds, and the performance at the same time, 15 bhp is about normal with std map and sports cats. The std exhaust is fine & long lasting, just keep it and put back on when if you sell, or at least offer it to the next owner.
I have a Ruf pipe on mine which is a modded factory one rather than a built from scratch, it's not really loud enough for me but it's better than stock and has 200 cell cats which is a noticeable change. It's actually less boom/drone than stock too
You have to decide if an OPC warranty is important to you or not, if not then there's plenty of opportunity's to improve a 996 turbo!
lots of good exhaust options here. I just noticed they have a Ruf "copy" too!
